A middle school teacher who beat four of his students found himself promoted to vice-principal only the month after he was forced to apologise.
At his new school, he then so traumatised a girl with his harsh words to her that she refused to attend school and began harming herself.
He was found in early 2007 to have slapped at least four schoolboys in the face, prompting parents to make formal complaints. The teacher was subsequently given an oral reprimand by the local city board, and apologised in person at the homes of the students he assaulted.
Deeming that he had secured the understanding of the parents, the city board did not bother to report his actions to the prefectural board, which proceeded to promote him to vice-principal of another school shortly after.
The prefectural school board excused itself: “We’re still checking the facts, but it seems likely we would have refrained from promoting him had we known at the time [what he had just done].”
Having finally found out about all this, the prefectural assembly is criticising those concerned: “They do not appreciate the gravity of this (illegal) corporal punishment.”
The teacher caused another incident when he moved to his new school. There, at the end of 2007 he told a third year middle school student “You’re just a nuisance”; the next month the girl dropped out of school and played truant until the present, for over a year.
She was also said to have begun engaging in self mutilation after the incident.

Why is the grammar of this post so much worse than usual?
What's wrong with the grammar?
When you mention it and after taking a closer look it seems a bit weird than usually. Especially because I couldn't access the webpage for over a day somehow.
Examples.
To me, the first paragraph just doesn't read smoothly. And I think both instances where you used the semicolon are kind of awkward. But I'm not an English teacher, so you could be using them correctly. It's just the use of that punctuation seems forced.
As for the article itself, these kinds of educators are the worse. It doesn't even sound like he was disciplining them, not that such a scenario would justify physical and/or verbal abuse of students.
I found this particular post easy to read and understand. The only mistake I can spot is the lack of the word "to" before the phrase "have beaten", in the first paragraph, first sentence.
You might be confused by Artefact's writing because he uses complex and "long period" sentences (I don't know the exact terminology for it). I like that sort of writing as it is usually more laconic and descriptive.
About the topic:
>>There, at the end of 2007 he told a third year middle school student “You’re just a nuisance”; the next month the girl dropped out of school and played truant until the present, for over a year.
She was also said to have begun engaging in self mutilation after the incident.
What? The student is surely a psychopath, you can't just self mutilate yourself because someone called you a "nuisance". The teacher shouldn't be blamed about it.
About the slaps I am not sure,I can't really tell who is justified if I don't hear what the students did to deserve the slap.
We have come to the exact opposite from what the educational system was decades ago. From teachers beating with the slightest reason a student now I see more and more violent behavior from students without being punished (violently or not). I am not so sure that this sort of trend will be good in the end. We must find balance between physical and psychological violence (or lack of them). This situation is getting out of hand.
Thanks for picking up the typo. The sentence is correct, but the fact that people may not be reading it smoothly suggests it is not optimal, and could use a rewrite.
See what I wrote below regarding what he said - it was much more extreme than it sounds when rendered into English, in fact it's the kind of thing teachers explicitly tell children not to say to each other...
So was it missing the word "to" or was the sentence right in the first place and I am wrong? English is not my mother language so I am asking out of curiosity and educational reasons.
Yeah sorry I saw the clarification after my post. My opinion is still though that even with the worst kind of lexical abuse a person shouldn't be THAT frustrated to the point of self injury. Of course the teacher has no excuse but the girl needs psychological attention/help.
On another note, was the site down for a long period of time (some hours)?
learn 2 english
... that's just messed up. :/
Your parents should have beaten you, maybe you wouldn't be such a neet.
I made it to MIT, I make $30 teaching piano, and am going to prom with a guy. So much for calling me a neet.
Way to fail.
No. He is right. You're a neet.
Apparently some people don't know what "NEET" means.
You say it like you're proud of it.
Get out.
You keep using that word... I do not think it means what you think it means...
This just goes to show the wonderful community we share here at Sankaku! ^_^
Oh pish :P I have too much of a life. What's not to be proud of?
The fact that you're seeking recognition for your 'accomplishments' on a board such as this would be a good start.
Says someone occupying himself with random attacks on said person?
I was proving that I was not a neet. But your definition of neet is the one that I have no reason to be ashamed of since I'm a minor.
My best guess is you're too pretty to be a NEET.This is my sole opinion and doesn't reflect to each single individual in this forum.Everybody's Got Opinions, anyway.
"am going to prom with a guy"
She goes to school, she is not a neet.
Facepalm @ GourmetPrinc and Anon.
This is hilarious--
lol.
excuse me, are you one of those people who goes to prom because you're very pretty and have lots of friends? do you also make fun of people like me who wears glasses and dresses different than others? do you make fun of these kind of people to look better in front of others? if so, i am afraid of you.
i say goodbye. i scared of you. bye bye.
@Anon: Way to wrongly assume things. I used to wear glasses and I'm from an otaku family or I wouldn't be here.
Sure. Be scared of everyone different from you. That'll get you far in life.
Someone is confusing NEET with something else.
Word fail lol
Anon's troll fails outweigh word fails by far.
LMAO
Masterful troll is you Mimi!! (what a fucking retarded name anyway)
Anyway, cool story, brah.
little bitch Anon
LOL Anon what a way to try and bring me down. My real name is not Mimi. And I couldn't care less if you hate it. Boo hoo.
You're only exacerbating your level of failage.
i honestly don't know how you could keep your "boyfriend" if your this pissy....unless hes a masochist
by the way i quoted boyfriend cuz i honestly don't think you have one, theres no pic and timestamp so its not real
WTF this is so random.
...but I lol'd.
Japan certainly is lax with its school teacher reprimands...
what the hell did he do to them? self mutilation ...
Meh teacher abuse is a common ocurance in every school in every nation :P
Not many get promoted after engaging in it though...
Promotions!
The girl cut herself because her teacher called her a nuisance? She must had other issues too.
Not really - it's hard to translate but what he said was a lot more brutal than it sounds here - more like "Why the hell do you even bother coming here!?"
2ch was far more scathing of his remarks than his actually hitting anyone...
The fact that translation sometimes fails even by the hand of the more almighty ones doesn't excuse the fact that the girl is a psycho anyway. I've seen, and listened, to preachers like that in school from time to time, but noone ever reacted like that. Also, if she was that much of a fail student, i'd rather stick with the teacher. And, to be as much honest as i can, i'd also like to discipline myself some bad students i saw. Then again, i'm still young, i'm not a teacher, i do not know all the facts behind the fact we're talking about, and i read way too much GTO and other mangas to be able to express a non-violent speach.
the fact that his words were the straw that broke the camel's back is significant. Not to mention the fact that guys like him shouldn't be teaching anyways.
the girl is really emotional and take things way too seriously. just kuz the teacher says you're a nuisance, you going to cut yourself? that will lead to suicide sooner or later
Heaven forefend that a fifteen year old doesn't have the emotional maturity of a thirty year old, especially when a very important role model in a young adult's life (their teacher) lets loose with something like that.
Sure, some who were already predisposed to verbal abuse could probably take it without batting an eye, but some people are more emotionally vulnerable than others.
I guess she's yandere.
well said lol
Girls are too damn emotional period?...
maybe the teacher is a former military instructor or something

I used to work as a JET teacher in Japanese junior high schools a few years ago and more than one occasion I saw a Japanese teacher haul off and smack the hell out of a student they were reprimanding. It always seemed to be the same few teachers that would smack a student on the head like that. The other teachers looked the other way when the event happened and would not talk about it. I asked about the behavior and always got a brick wall of course (as a foreigner and a visiting teacher, bringing it to other people's attention was about all I could do, to my disgust).
You might think there's a obvious line between a smack on the head and an outright beating, and I would agree. But I think for someone who has gotten away with violent behavior towards their students in the past, they could certainly get worse over time with the rest of the school admin looking the other way.
Like a frog slowly boiling in water, you only hear about these incidents when they finally leak outside the school enclave and into the local community where they are rightly seen for what they are - over the top extreme.
As for the promotion, this is probably how they "dealt with the problem" internally by moving him to another place in hope of it blowing over. Depending on the junior high school, Vice-principals have less direct contact with students and often deal with paperwork and meet guests in the teachers office most days. (Again, I don't agree with this, but I worked as a JET long enough to see this happen a few times.)
TLDR version: I can see how this could happen as I saw violent behavior by teachers at Japanese JHS firsthand.
lucky for me, I haven't seen any violence in the JHSes I'm at. the worst I've seen is just scolding but nothing physical. but some kids just needs to get their ass kicked, but I'd rather it come from the parents than the teachers.
