Over 80 schools in Japan have decided to adopt the song “Sakura no Ame“, as sung by Hatsune Miku, for their official graduation theme this year.
The song, made famous on Nico, was first uploaded in February 2008, and has also since enjoyed a CD release.
The author of the song, Haruyoshi Mori, along with his band “Absorb”, was even invited to perform the song live during an actual high school graduation concert recently, much to his surprise: “A year ago, I’d never have thought something like this would happen.”
Prior to their success on Nico, gaining over a million views, the band was completely unknown and sold extremely poorly. As we have seen with other outfits, chart topping success now seems possible for Vocaloid using musicians.
Both Vocaloid and NicoNico Douga seem to be effectively cultivating budding musicians and songwriters, and with the introduction of new characters like Megurine Luka, and also less popularly, “Gackpoid“, this trend looks set to continue.
The song in question:
Via Yomiuri.
Now if only the female students would take it upon themselves to cosplay as Miku during the ceremonies…

"female students would take it upon themselves to cosplay"
This was just as keikaku btw. The author started a "project" wherein a large gathering of people would sing it together. Schools then offered to sing it.
sing it for graduation*
^_^
T^T nice song, I hope MY graduation that great. . . too bad mine got spoilt
I'm happy for those kids
>I hope MY graduation that great. . . too bad mine got spoilt
Wait what? Elaborate.
Graduating with this kind of music.... Anybody feel like its going to expose like all of the hidden school otaku?
>expose like all of the hidden school otaku?
God that would be pretty awkward.
>hidden otaku
What makes you think that they'll be hidden?
yea...
are otakus, well, hidden?
you got to admit, its a great song with nice lyrics.
beware of 'em traps i warn you....
the future of 3D singer is grimm if Digital singer continued her succes like this....
Anyone has a rough/decent translation for this?
You can find it at Moetron

Thank you kind sir
many ordinary scenes you can expect from a school, and finally "out of the windows of our classroom, the rain of sakura petals, falling into our palms, into our hearts, we cried, we laughed, we sweated, we sweared,, pedals of our dreams...see you my friends..."....things like that, ,
simple but moving and deep touching, reminds me of a all-chinese-know song called 同桌的你, while the latter nostalgic but this one filled with hope, emotions, thoughts of adolescence,,
Now if only hyadain can follow through......
Hurray for Haruyoshi and Miku's Success!!
you got to admit its a great song with really nice lyrics.
I admit nothing! Really not my kind of song.
Miku is going to eventually take over the world, and I have no problems at all with it.
Yes, 100% agreed ^^
now if only they could proceed with some metal, that would be great.
Yesh, Miku invasion has finally started.
ALL HAIL MIKU
Not my type of song at all.
All hail Miku? I'm still hailing Haruhi!
All Hail to LOLI :p
Nice article, Linkin.
I wish I was Japanese. Maybe then I'd be able to listen to this kind of music and like it. Maybe if I listened to less music...Or alternatively, maybe I'm no longer capable as a person of enjoying Jpop or anything related to such.
Great music. Got a really nice melody.
Better than what I heard during my graduation...
I-I-I-I graduated.....
And Miku sings that to me....
I'm so happy~~~~~
...................
Err...
What did I say?
They should had gone further and encouraged their female students to cosplay for the occasion...
So what are exactly the song's lyrics? They must mean something if they're used in school grads, right? ^^
Look up. Lyrics already posted by KonW
Man, this song totally makes me nostalgic all over again over my own high school years... Anyway, ya, the lyrics themselves are for highschool graduates. Miku is singing about all the everyday things highschoolers do, like the the writings on desks and stuff they do on the school rooftops (although western schools don't really let their students go onto the roofs, hahaha. Unfortunately we don't really have school shoe lockers to put love letters in either. Such are the woes of western schools).
Nice song is nice :3
I hated highschool. I really, really did, but after hearing this song, I sort of miss it. ^^;
Thou the music and lyrics are nice, I still think the vocals itself are horrible, Vocaloid's vocal just cant compare in quality and emotions with real singer (good singer, plz note).
Well only the song will be sung. It won't use Miku's voice, which I also hate for one reason or another. But at least as I said above, it's a good platform for aspiring song writers as you don't need a singer
That's a really nice song. Wish our school would change from their usual "Pomp and Circumstance"
Even though it's teh first time I'm listening to this, it sounds very familiar...
BTW, I wunt her to join Symphonic Metul scene taking it to the whole new level XD
LOL, I just listened to this song without realizing the post lol. Also did post it on the IRC. Songs quite nice, I'm sure the album would be nice as well.....
I'm actually kinda sad Gackpo hasn't caught on to this level--he's been put to use in some genuinely good songs. But since what praise and tribute to the Vocaloids that isn't music is often porn, I'm, y'know, more than willing to shut up and let Miku and Luka take center stage.
congratulations to the unknown band.... Miku<3
Great first? post linkinstreet, too bad I HATE nostalgia when it tries to milk tears. Some reason the tempo/tune of the song tries to do that to me.
Ah high school....how I miss you.
How can I get the mp3 of this on the nico page?
Ah, Miku....one day I will have her power...
hmmm... not sure whether i like that song or not... I'm more into the J-Punk and J-Rock side of things... Asian Kung-Fu generation HOOooooo! :P
