Hatsune Miku Performs at 80 Schools for Graduation

Over 80 schools in Japan have decided to adopt the song “Sakura no Ame“, as sung by Hatsune Miku, for their official graduation theme this year.

The song, made famous on Nico, was first uploaded in February 2008, and has also since enjoyed a CD release.

The author of the song, Haruyoshi Mori, along with his band “Absorb”, was even invited to perform the song live during an actual high school graduation concert recently, much to his surprise: “A year ago, I’d never have thought something like this would happen.”

Prior to their success on Nico, gaining over a million views, the band was completely unknown and sold extremely poorly. As we have seen with other outfits, chart topping success now seems possible for Vocaloid using musicians.

Both Vocaloid and NicoNico Douga seem to be effectively cultivating budding musicians and songwriters, and with the introduction of new characters like Megurine Luka, and also less popularly, “Gackpoid“, this trend looks set to continue.

Now if only the female students would take it upon themselves to cosplay as Miku during the ceremonies…
