A selection of photographic depictions of ladies (or gravure idols at any rate) dressed in various items of traditional Chinese (or otherwise) clothing, or variations thereof; for the sake of convenience these are lumped together using the Japanese name of “China dress”, but many will doubtless be familiar with them as cheongsam, qipao, ao dai, and whatever else…
Westerners can't easily recognize which one is japaness and which one is chinese, but it's very easy for both of us. Japaness only take Qipao as an sexy dress... So it becames shorter and shorter...
"Kayeryu:The only good thing to have ever come out of China.
Ever."
If that were the case, why did Japan copy so much of Chinese culture prior and during the Heian period?
Nara and Kyoto were like mini-versions of China's ancient capital, to name just one Chinese cultural influence.
That's really true actually: heian-kyou (now Kyoutou) was essentially a smaller version of changan (now Xian).
There's plenty of other good things that came out of China (or China influenced), especially evident in Japan;
-Kimono by Han Clothing
-Xu Fu (who was very likely the catalyst for the transition from farming culture to the early version of Japanese culture today)
-Tea ceremony
-Flower viewing (hanami was a social practice in China first; officials of Heian wished to emulate this)
-Ramen
-Seiza
-Quan Fa
-Kanji
just to name a few.
I think it's more fair to say "Nothing good ever came out of Communist China."

completely, whole heartedly, supported, agreed and most I dunno how to describe it but utterly, perfectly, believably true, and whatever else that can be added to it that describes my enthusiasm and support for that comment.
I agree with Sigh, and would like to add that modern western civilization would've not evolved to what it is now without the help of ancient Chinese inventions.

...total butterface.
I normally hate any kind of tradition, but this is my favorite traditional outfit and I approve it. :p
Very pleasant gallery, though I have to state that the 2D china dress gallery was ten folds better (natural for most 2D vs 3D topics).
Sadly it's the 3D ones which are most popular, much more so than the 2D ones.
Good.
I really LOVE all those dresses with all those hips and thighs !
Dammit !
Excellent gallery to say the least! Thumbs up! Couldn't spot any Ao dai dresses though. It was mentioned in the article.
there was one up there, but a pantless version :P

wow! what an epic gallery... *wiping tears of joy*
Everything China makes is so very tasty :D
I'll not say more than a passing reference to lead, but this style of dress is indeed quite lovely.
I liked the 2D gallery, and not surprisingly this as well.
Lead adds flavor.
The only good thing to have ever come out of China.
Ever.
You are an idiot.

I think Wing Chun kung fu belongs in that statement...AKA Bruce Lee.
Yes, yes indeed.
I think the food qualifies for that as well.
Fuck yeah... I love my food with glass and lead as well.
Indeed. Poor quality tastes. People should try stuff regulary. And food is the easiest way.
Only takes a bite and a gulp to change ur barbaric ways.
Seems like you've been eating hamburgers since you were born, so you don't know what real food tastes like...
That's just so sad. Never had any decent chinese food before?
I disagree, because a lot of Japanese culture stems from Chinese culture :p

2D ftw...
