Since October 1st of last year, Japan has seen an increase in its available land. Numerous areas, including Tokyo, Ibaraki and Nagasaki, are growing larger, with Japan’s total land area now reaching 377,943.57 square kilometers (about 10% smaller than California).
The cities most heavily influenced by this were Tokyo and Nagasaki, with an increase of 13.58 and 8.93 square kilometers respectively.
According to the Geographical Survey Institute, the yearly increase in land area is estimated to be around one 25,000th of the total area of the nation.
And the cause of this not so puzzling increase? Polders, dikes, land reclamation, all are helping push back the sea in areas of critically high land value, which happens to be most cities considering Japan is 90% mountainous and thus unsuitable for much building.
This should certainly be good news for those living in the more cramped areas of the country.

I'm a Dutchfag and I really question the wisdom of the Japanese. The sea levels are rising constantly and we've found ourselves in the unpleasant situations that we've got to pour a lot of money in heightening and widening the dikes and strengthening the keringen just to keep what we've got. People are seriously wondering whether it's even possible to continue like this, and creating new polders is surely folly, at least until sea levels start falling or we develop some magical new construction material to build better dikes with.

No, in SC2, the cold fusion power plant was the safest, most efficient plant available, although no one really had one at the time the game came out, and a real-life one might be more dangerous than the one in the game.

I saw an article on TV there once regarding changes they're making to the trains. Large underground tunnels are being dug around the country so they can eventually have the train system run through them instead and create more space in the cities.
They are said to be thinking of calling this radical invention a "sub-way system". Truly, Japan is a land of marvels.
