Star Ocean Producer: “I Wanted to Make an H Game”

Square Enix attached 山岸 功典 / Yoshinori Yamagishi, the creative force behind the Star Ocean series of RPGs, revealed recently in an interview that he would like to have made an eroge.
Whilst fans heave sighs of lamentation that he did not get his way, his bosses are doubtless yielding to sighs of relief…
“Personally, I really like to make an ecchi game or something, honestly.
But when I quietly mentioned this to a former company boss, he barked back ‘No way!'”
What could have been?
His latest work, Star Ocean 4 (above), properly Star Ocean: the Last Hope, an Xbox 360 “exclusive”, is due February 19th. Orders are open (the English version is getting a simultaneous release).

Aw poor guy, woulda been somewhat interesting if he did manage to make an eroge. Oh well, maybe he still got his way with some hidden surprises in SO4.
why is it exclusive for 360 when all the previous star oceans have been on the playstation?
A few were on nintendo systems. although i got hooked on 3 the fact is 1 was a snes title and star ocean blue ocean i think it was was a game boy color game.
You could ask the same about Tales of Vesperia. It's a Jewish conspiracy to take over the Japanese videogaming market. The X-Box failed horribly in Japan so now they are trying to force people into buying their new system by letting big studios develop their newest franchise entries for X-Box 360 exclusively. And it works, Japanese people are buying Jewish gaming systems to play their Japanese games on. If you own all the money you can spend, your desire for power begins to replace that for raw money. Microsoft is probably paying big time for these exclusive titles but they don't worry about that since at the moment they only want to reel in some market share. X-Box was never a profitable brand in Japan, its share of the console pie after its launch 2002 never grew big enough to even show up in the diagrams. It got discontinued after three years in Japan, much like the Dreamcast did in the US (in Japan it lasted eight years, while the X-Box lasted only five years in its home country). Microsoft has lots of other venues to gather money so they won't hesitate to bribe developers if it means they can gain more power in a non-Jewish country like Japan.

this will not end well (for sony). i would have hoped japanese and their extreme protectionism would have acted as a shield, unfortunately they've been infiltrated and are assuredly on the way down. let's hope denon, olympus, kenwood and the others will learn from that.
I don't know about his being Jewish, but Stringer certainly was a mistake; record company executives and their ilk are hardly the sort one associates with insightful business practices...

It's interesting to see how many elements of his eroge have carried over to the finished product (Sexy female room mates anyone?). I'm going to wait for a finished release. It might be worth it to play and think what might have been.

I'm having mixed feelings about the graphics. The characters look good, but the background looks kinda grainy
its an jrpg does the background matter? its all about the characters. all the details go into wavy hair. wrpgs only go for size jrpgs only go for character designs that's how games work want nice backgrounds buy an fps you can stare at the walls all day.

Think about it, what if all the writers from our favourite video game companies really just wanted to write eroge? Don't you feel sorry for them? Wonder what would have come out if they had the chance to make one...
So many great eroge that will never be made. It's obvious that jrpg developers want to make eroge when they include slime and tentacle monsters.

The main reason why so many RPGs are going to Xbox360 is money. Microsoft is paying millions of dollars to top Japanese companies to make games for them in a hope to keep the station alive. If it fells in Japan the top gaming market in the world next to the US the station is doomed. Loss millions to make millions takes the Microsoft way. The Xbox360 is a broken product they putting millions to keep in the gaming market. People on they 3rd unit in 3years!!!!!! Something very wrong here.
The saddest part of all this is that with import tariffs, they STILL get these exclusives...if you consider the fact that Sony doesn't have to deal too much with that compared to M$, and Sony still can't buy the exclusives...this does not bode well for Sony at all. Btw is the RRoD somewhat remedied by now?
If he wants to go Eroge, I think all the better. Wasn't it Tony Taka who drew art for Shining Tears also made some hentai as well? If it works out, it's a win-win situation for everyone. I just wish he would make Eroges that are more interactive rather than click-next dialogue-click, click, click choice etc...

I dont care in which platform it is released (even i have a ps3 and i'd like to see it on mine ^^;) but what is truth is last square-enix games are not so good like infinite undiscovery or last remnant. Will be this Star Ocean better?? Let's see....

I think what he /wanted/ to do was the first serious game normal game with an explicit erotic part, in a way that his gamr surpasses Max Payne 3 legacy (sex scenes, normal game, although not explicit).
