Korean Nazi Cosplayers in Marketing Putsch

korean-nazi-cosplayers-1.jpg

A unit of Nazi cosplayers has incited international consternation by goose-stepping about the centre of Seoul in a marketing action in support of WWII MMOFPS Karma II.

korean-nazi-cosplayers-2.jpg

The muscled young men, pictured, braved the chill of wintery Seoul to ensure the game’s release got proper attention, and seem to have succeeded, drawing both Korean interest, and the international disapproval which soon accrues to the “Asians disrespectfully wearing Nazi uniforms” genre of mock news.

korean-nazi-cosplayers-3.jpg

The impact of their Nazi salutes are seemingly only marred by their failure to choose S.S. over Wehrmacht uniforms; though unlike the better class of Korean publicity stunt, tearing apart live animals or cutting themselves open does not feature.

korean-nazi-cosplayers.jpg

Similar previous marketing schemes in Korea, invoking the name of the late Fuhrer himself, also managed to attract much censure, so it is interesting that they would apparently not mind repeating this.

Of course, some would say the hysterical reaction such antics inevitably provoke is completely out of reasonable proportion, considering what many western war otaku get up to in their weekend antics…

Via Netharuka.

Harmless publicity, or thoughtless disrespect for a sacrosanct conflict?

It is a rather tasteless stunt, but media attention is what they wanted and what they got. I'm sure that REAL nazis, like the ones in the US and Germany, were shocked and angered by the audacity of these non-Aryans.

Korean-Jews, is that really exist? Man, doom day seem to be here sooner than expected!!! With recent news about Korea, they are making me a racist about korean... I put Korea as the last place i want to visit in my near futur.

It's true that Hitler and Nazis are still a delicate subject... with all happen during second world war, it will take more 100 years before we can forget, but the nazi symbol will never be accepted because it's a symbol of racist and hatred.

Aw, don't be such a sourpuss. Despite all the demonstrations and psuedo-nazis and anti-american-beefism, the country itself isn't all that bad. The country-side is green, the mountains are lush (mostly due to the Japanese invasion (They wanted green mountains to remind themselves of their homeland. Korea originally had rocky mountains like China.), and the fields abundant.

The cities are jam-packed with western logos (like Outback Steakhouse (MUCH better than in the US), and snack cart/stalls are always abundant where sweet old ladies and friendly, hard-boiled old men greet you with smiles and familiarity even if you are a foreigner (not to mention excellent food).

Thanks to Japanese influence, if you wanted it, you could even get Takoyaki or Taiyaki from the aforementioned food stalls. The takoyaki at the ski resorts are to die for, btw. Crispy on the outside, chewy and filled with mouth-watering batter on the inside.

Anyway, I have already 10 country I want to visit in the next 10 year... I never felt the need to go there. But I don't like to look down to Korea because it's not often the people who's being jackass, it's the governement and the higher-up.

WondrousWizard, what is nazi symbol you mean? Is it swastika? If that so, I tell you that swastika is used not only by nazi. And it is used for thousand years. Generally it means good, fortunate, lucky, sun and another positive things.

Even if that's true... still this symbol (swastika) became that and express those feelings and thinking for the majority of the world. It's like what U.S.A. represent for the whole world right now... because of Bush and his government and some others president from past, U.S.A. is know as a selfish and pro-war country. But the people of U.S.A. are not like that, I mean, not everyone or even the majority.

Just put the nazi swastika on your shirt for everyone to look and go around... great chance you will get some trouble or simply people will look at you weirdly.

That's how the world is my friend... sad but true.

    Fun history facts.
The 45th Infantry Division of the United States Army used a yellow swastika on a red background as a unit symbol until the 1930s. The Lafayette Escadrille squadron flew World War I fighters against Germany from 1916 to 1918, first as volunteers under French command and later as a US unit. The official squadron insignia was a Native American with a swastika adorned headdress. Some of the squadron planes also bore a large swastika in addition to the squadron insignia.

    Ironic no?

I bet those guys couldn't pull of a nice angry German accent since the Korean language sounds so whiny in comparison. Hopefully Germans do something mockingly of Koreans like dressing as a typical communist Korean while eating dog; and then see how Korea over-reacts.
