Four panel manga けいおん! / K-On! (by Kakifly) is set to receive an anime adaptation, due to air in the spring, and handled by none other than Kyoto Animation.
Their usual illustrative style permeates the character design noticeably; above you see the original, below is the anime version:
As you might guess, guitars will feature.
A studio with a distinct visual style indeed. See also the earlier imagining of what a KyoAni Little Busters! might look like.
Clearly, they have better things to do than waste their time on minor franchises…

One of the few Spring shows I'm really looking forward to.
Hmmm I cant wait for all the dojinshi, i wanna see her do things with the guitar XD
But I'm sure she will play her guitar in the anime as well!
How far will the neck go up her lips between the hips?! Find out soon, when Rule 34 takes effect.
D:
Holy crap that was funny as hell and exetremely ironic...
I am very excited for this anime and I'm sure it will be good, but I predict a big backlash from Haruhi fans.
What about Haru....
You know what? I give up.
Do whatever the hell you want KyoAni.
Not like you haven't been doing so anyways.
yay more KyoAni. like most of the internet, i am waiting for the next haruhi season, but i can wait, this looks lovly (although i prefer the original's skirt... pritty)
Anime art reminds me of Kannagi... A lot. Would have preferred JC staff to handle this one, but I fully expect KyoAni to do a good job of it.
Yeah now you mention it, the face, hair and shading look practically the same.
Girls with guitars are a bit of a fetish of mine, will surely watch this.
Yeah, that was the 1st thing I thought when I saw this. Reminds me of Tsugumi.
So it wasn't only me!!

The resemblance is quite astonishing huh?
When I first checked out the site during C75, the design seemed to scream "Kannagi" to me (still kinda looks like they pasted Zange-chan's face on to me).
But KyoAni, eh...
Well, I think it'll be a fun watch, and I know Kyoto Animation will do it well, although I, like some others, would prefer Haruhi 2 (if only because it feels like they've been holding it over our heads for the longest time).
Hell yeah! I love Haruhi as much as the next guy, but I'm personally much more excited about this. Now if we could just get that damn Little Busters anime.
Same thoughts!
Haruhi's great and all, but this seems very nice ^^
Oh and yea, LB would be great too, wouldn't it? :D
lololol
Artefact cares about KyoAni.
Posting something because it is interesting to me and because it is interesting to you are two different things...
Why so serious?
Why not?
I always suspected there was something a little extra then just the usual news reporting going on there with him and them.
Lol they really really hate Haruhi fans. Never before have I seen a studio just absolutely despise a franchise before. I'm starting to think Fall 2010 before we see crap. Screw you Kyo-Ani either announce the damn thing sometime soon or just say you have no interest in it, these half ass things are just pissing people off.
Anyway, while on the hand I see no reason why Kyoani should be held hostage by the clammering of a certain subset of fans, on the other it seems like at this point they kind of owe a second season to Haruhi fans for teasing them this long.
4get Haruhi. I'm so sick of fakes. K-on pl0x. Little busters is fine too.
I don't care WHAT Kyotoani does, as long as they do it well, and so far, they haven't disappointed.
Except that they're teasing us with Haruhi2 for almost 2 years now.
Work on Little Busters! first ;_;
Yea, it would be nice if they do Littler Busters!
Seeing Haruhi 2 would be nice too, but I'm not really dying to see it like most people...as they are just so many decent anime around that can keep me occupied.
Hell, Full Metal Panic: TSR was before Haruhi (if I remember right), and there's not even the slightest sign of if a sequel will ever be made. Unlike the Haruhi 2, which is most likely not even a continuation of season 1, I wish to see sequel of FMP more.
I would kill for more FMP especially since the novels are almost done.
Man...I almost don't want to think of FMP JUST because there is no sign of a next series being done...
Didn't know this show was being produced by Kyoto Animation. Now I'm definitely going to watch it.
Too Haruhi and Kanagi for my taste...I need my Lucky Star!
Looks more like it's from A-1 Pictures than KyoAni. Is it really KyoAni? I would think Yamakan is behind this one just because it's music.
Indeed, that's what I thought right away. There is still hope for Haruhi 2 after all... just not with Yamakan eh?
hey KyoAni...where's haruhi 2?
Rather..Where is Little Busters? T_T
Looks like a extra for Clannad
As long as Haruhi comes someday, I'm pretty much okay with whatever Kyo Ani does. Just no more Munto, please.
Man, I would pay to see Kyoani fans rage if it was announced that:
"Haruhi season 2 will be done by...........SHAFT"
*rage ensues*
I agree with Youko though. It looks more like A1 to me. But hell I could be wrong.
Actually that would be kinda interesting.
...That would actually be pretty cool.
More Dochibi style animation is a good thing.
(And I'm the only one who really isn't giving much of a damn about Haruhi season 2)
Hahaha, I've been waiting for this! ...Soon..!
moe'd version of Detroit Metal City... lol!
This show officially had my support!!
The style really suits the story, yeah I like guitar but I cant play it >.>
Yawn.
Are they scared of doing Haruhi 2 or something because it might not live upto the ridiculous expectations people have, thus making their animation house look bad?
Me thinks so if they'd rather waste time on stuff like this...
Every piece of news about Kyoto Animation leaves me in despair.
I've been dissapointed with them working on Munto TV (Munto OVA was AWFUL) instead on Lucky Star second season or Little Buster (which I hope they will made into anime since it's a very popular visual novel of Key, just like Clannad, Air and Kanon)...ok, even Haruhi (even if I find it overrated but I didn't mind watched it). But this anime looks very interesting.
KyoAni eh? Will believe when it gets released
Original looks nicer.
as far as i know, A-1 Picture is working on the Valkyria Chronicles anime which is also scheduled to be released on April, but i still don't think KyoAni is doing K-On!. Looks too similar to Kannagi to me than their usual stuff.
I have some sources saying KyoAni, but if yours are better I'd like to hear so I can correct?
Two questions. Are any of these sources official and can you post a link then?
Yea I'm not seeing this mentioned in the official places (atleast for English audiences such as ANN) so if you could post a source for this it would be much appreciated.
It is not official.
Speculation is mostly based on the fact that the designs thus shown supposedly appear to be done by Yukiko Horiguchi, an illustrator attached to Kyoto Animation (she was the art supervisor for Clannad, and Haruhi, and worked as a character designer on Lucky Star).
Much of 2ch seems convinced, but it is still technically speculation.
Well I know Clannad's been broadcasting on TBS and BS-i since the first season, so there's the possibility. However, I can't really deny that it looks like Mima Kageru's style. Looks like we'll be guessing until confirmation hits.
