The new Winter 2009 series from KyoAni, “Sora o Miageru Shoujo no Hitomi ni Utsuru Sekai”, perhaps better known as the Munto TV series, has recently aired its first episode.
The TV adaptation is repeating events from the original OVA series before continuing the story properly, so this comparison image showing the new version alongside the old seems appropriate…
The major different is obviously the aspect ratio, the change to a 16:9 ratio from the original 4:3 is definitely welcome, and does provide more of a cinematic feel to the show.
Colors and lighting effects have also been touched up, with fans mostly agreeing that the new effects are an improvement, although there are some questionable moments – the image of Kazuya at the very bottom seems to have lost something in the transition.
As the original OVA designs are by now several years old, one has to wonder if there will be any sort of (possibly jarring) change in the animation design once the show finishes recapping the OVA plot and continues on to new material?

The difference of animation design between the actual show and the OP/ED is jarring enough. One has to wonder if they would actually have it gradually change into those newer designs.
Well the OVA is 7 years(Not sure) old or so? When I first watched this I thought kyoani reanimated the whole thing but then I found out that there was a really old OVA.
you guys serious? did you look at the full-size comparison pics? the OVA shows way more detail, and the TV images are just widescreen-CROPS of the OVA - notice the missing sections at the tops and bottoms?

it's got more than the ova, more detail, more animation, more sound effect, etc.

omg... I totally..... agree? I think you're right! The details are so much more refined in the OAV. Maybe the colors aren't as sharp, but I see what you're saying!

I don't this is fair comparision. It has to be OVA vs DVD.
Well the the texture of the scenery in OVA is more apparent. And the line quality is more crisper on the OVA(with this picture shown). OVA doesn't seem to have guass feel to line trying to fake it to make it look natural like the TV version does. Iono the TV version contrast-wise I think it's too bright making the whole episode visually imbalance . I would like to the see the actual actual OVA to get more of a fair look.
A good case, but I have to deal with what's available, unfortunately.
I'm not certain of the quality of the broadcast the TV series is being broadcast at, but as commentors told me in an earlier Macross BD/TV comparison piece a jpeg image isn't the best for making such detailed observations...
I was impressed with the first episode. Looks to be a interesting series, I hope it plays out that way since White Album is the only show so far I'm sold on.

no, the left side is ova and the right side is tv, and if you were judging from the pics you'd mean to choose the right side obviously because it has better quality animation and is widescreen

Too much bloom on the OVA. I prefer the TV version, cause it's cleaner and the better ratio (especially for the 3 first screens)
I'm also preferring the TV version, the lack of blurriness is nice.
