The second episode of Akikan has nearly created a new legend of anime failure, so dire has its quality become:
Observers can’t help but notice that the title is set to go on sale in its DVD version soon, apparently for the price of ¥9,000 for two episodes…
Certainly a contender for a special gallery on the subject. Having not even reached the third episode yet, might not worse be in store?

I've only seen the first episode and was unimpressed by the quality, and you say the second is worse? AND the want $90 for two episodes?
Fuck that.
i second that.
fuck that.
From these picturese I won't watch it even if I'd getting paid for. And whats with that joke of a price?
Fuck that
Seeing this reminded me that I haven't seen this yet
You would think the artist himself would look at it and go, "Hmm, this doesn't really look right."
And the nerve of charging close to 100 dollars for 2 of these failures...
Seriously, fuck that.
Even the moe character looks screwed...
Fuck that.
6 comments so far, I sixth that.
Fuck this shit.
I dont really see anything wrong with the 4th and 5th images. Exagerating a bit much Artefact? sure the drawings arent great but some of these arent that terrible... and anyways when it's animated it doesnt matter anyway- it's just a frame or two, amirite or am I right?
I think there's a bent chopstick in the fourth, along with misplaced eyes, and odd arms in both images
true that is not that bad and probaly is watchable. but that frute looks like its stolen from one piece........... dont dought the importance of things like this.................... (could be realy important)
Why? It's a normal melon!
Holy crap, that was a fruit?O_O
What was a fruit? LOL
melon.. cabbage... same shit
Fuck that.
I didn't know One Piece had a monopoly on honey melon.
They also had a monopoly on pirates. That's why those Somali pirates are hijacking so many ships... they need to get the money to pay One Piece off.
take a good look at the chopstick in her hand... try holding on like that and you may be related to MC Escher...
the point isn't necessarily just a frame or two, its the complete lack of QC which Artefact is pointing out...
In the fourth and fifth image, look at the degree which that blond is able to turn her head without tilting. It is physically impossible. Try it yourself.
• The finger on the left girl,
• The forearm on the left girl,
• The uniform detail on the stomach part on the left girl,
• (I'm nitpicking here but...) the chopstick aren't the same length,
• (More nitpicking) the right girl's neck and head position is a bit off.
For the fifth one...
• The boy's hand's a bit off... actually I think the shoulder, elbow, and wrist are bent wrongly and
• The shadowing on the girl's left breast indicates somewhat of a breast but if you look at the right breast's outline... it's flat.
A few frame doesn't really make it unwatchable but overall the production quality of this anime is terribly terribly low... and they're charging 9000en for two episode.
I could be wrong but the tie the boy is wearing is like missing a bit :P
Her head is also turning over 180 degrees. Which means her head is....dislocated?
Its the 'noticeable' issue. In animated medium, when the drawing is not right, it sticks out like a sore thumb whether its 1 or 2 frames (which is probably worse for anime because the industry tend to forgo frames for detailed works. How do you think people start going bonanza about Disney with sexual innuendo in their old cartoon movies?
oh my eyes!! X_x
At least it looks better than the Chaos Head anime.
that is a horrible joke.
stfu n00b!
chaos head is definitely better than this in the earlier episodes.
At least Chaos;Head had an interesting plot.
And EPIC FAIL in the end.
About Akikan, really EPIC FAIL drawing. A temp team should do better.
If you look six and a half minutes into the first episode, you'll notice a distinct failure by a third arm on the left side of his body after getting blasted with the melon ball thing. Yet another epic fail
That "third arm on the left side of his body" is what's commonly known, in biological circles, as a leg. If you look carefully you'll see that there's also one on the right side of his body, though only the hip part of it is visible.
WHAT NONSENSE THOU ART SPEWING!
Sure is QUALITY around here.
MAI BOI, this QUALITY is what all true anime lovers don't strive 4.
Who the fuck would spend $90 for two episodes of ANY anime, let alone one that looks like everyone has massive Downs?
The Japanese. They seem to enjoy getting absolutely raped, what with 3000 yen CDs, 4000-5000 yen DVDs, 6000yen Blu Ray... absolutely absurd anyone buys anything at all with those prices.
So, you think that this is expensive, right ? You're completely wrong. You just don't know their average salary.
Um, what? It's not as if all Japanese people make a ton of money, you know. A lot of people are average, and the prices are still considered expensive-- but it's pretty much the only price you can get things at, so it's accepted as normal. There are no Best Buy prices in Japan. Japan is still expensive in terms of electronic goods. It just happens that America is also cheap in terms of electronic goods, in addition to that.
The overall price level in Japan, which in my opinion is usually grossly overstated (it's a cheap place compared to many developed nations), is different to the price for niche goods.
Anime DVD prices and so forth are based on targeting a relatively small, but dedicated, market. In economic parlance we would say the otaku and anime fans exhibit relatively low "price elasticity" in their demand characteristics.
In short, you can gouge them easily.
They appear expensive to me as an American due to the episode count per disc and the price tag. Average DVD here for a 26 episode series is 4 episodes for 30 bucks(what is the dollar now 90 yen?). Whereas it's about 60 bucks for only 2 episodes a disc for a series of that length in Japan. For a longer series like Gundam Wing, the discs were 5 episodes each so 5 bucks an episode. Less discs mean less space taken up on my shelf too. I can't even fathom how much space my collection would take up if it were Japanese DVD's.
We also tend to have condensed box sets these days with even fewer discs at lower prices. These come out sometime after all the individual discs get released. Amazon's got some good deals on new stuff if you look around too. I got the first two seasons of Marimite for 60 bucks there.
There were a lot of very bitter comments about this when the price of the US Haruhi set was posted on 2ch - of course some just buy from the US...
lol I can see that. We also got discs with the special releases that contained the episodes in their broadcast order. Something I definitely had to have...
Exchange rate is pretty bad. It was pretty much at 73\ per 1 USD last month. Now it's back up to 90\, fortunately, but who knows how long that'll last.
Hell I would pay it if it was Blu-Ray and had some good features and extras for it.
There goes another must buy anime (with Noto Mamiko-sama's great voice in the series) for me..........
I was about to cry thinking about the failure they're going to do on Yell......
Most of them don't look THAT bad... but the first pic is on the same level as Good Naruto, you look kind of cool
hahaha u said it =D
i see nothing wrong with the quality...
Can anyone gimmie a reference to compare the anime to original source/?
shit, this is hardly bad. This is on the level of 'if you bitch, your a pussy'.
Among all those images,i think the first image is the worst.Others are still okay to me.
But i think Akikan isn't the only anime that suffered a terribly bad animation quality iirc so far.Not like its the worst in the anime history anyway...
Akikan in general is a good series, although some may say it as somewhat ridiculous or craps or stupid.People may probably appreciate the series more IF only a better studio takes the job to animate the series.Brain Base to me although not that bad (to me they're actually doing good for series like Natsume Yuujinchou) but i think they're not really that good for animating this kind of anime genre (supernatural high school harem).
Its kinda sad knowing the sky-earth differences between the animation style and the novel illustration style. Now with all this bad animation quality, the one that suffered will be the series title itself..not the studio that made it.
