Cosplay idol Shoko-tan has been busy making mischief; we hear that she made the three announcers pictured above give Kira☆ poses, and in addition has published a spot of Macross cosplay on her blog, and produced a rather skilful illustration of Ranka Lee, both visible below.
The programme in question is めざにゅ～ / Mezanew, which has no particular connection to anime, and it is not clear whether the trio had any idea about what they were doing – alas, no video is available.

Whats the origin on that hand sign? I don't think it originated with Ranka
But it did! IIRC it was dubbed the キラッ☆ (kira) sign on 2ch and Nico as the first Ranka/Seikan Hikou-themed MADs after episode 12 emerged. But there is the slight possibility that I'm actually misinformed on that one.
