The latest Vocaloid after the Gackpoid emerges in detail, set for release at the end of January; her name is 巡音ルカ / Megurine Luka.
She (her voice) is said to be “cool and husky”, a reasonable description as you can hear in the below demo song:
Player 1
This is the official rendition, by Kei, designer of the previous Vocaloids:
Her profile is as follows:
Age: 20
Height: 162cm
Weight: 45kg
Genres: Latin, Jazz, Ethno-pop, House/Electronic Dance
Tempo: 65-145BPM
Range: D3-D5
As far as the Vocaloid family of virtual idols goes (ignoring their usage as musical tools), she looks only third or perhaps second rate, as opposed to the first rate set of Miku and the Kagmine clan. Still, we shall see.
Art is already starting to accumulate all the same:
Do my eyes deceive me, or did I accidentally slip an image of Tear, of Tales of the Abyss, in there?
See also her official homepage at Crypton. The major sellers are all being difficult about international shipping, but it should not be too hard to acquire her.
Thanks to Topher Cantler of Tomopop for tipping me off.

Tear from the game, Tales of the Abyss = fail. Please look carefully. They look alike, but their outfits, bangs, and hair color are diferent.
I actually like the robotic sound of the earlier versions. It sets them apart from any old singer. The more realistic they sound the less they appeal to me.
Plus…she sounds like a more feminine Len.
Though I don’t dislike her. She has a nice voice but Rin and Miku shall be my favorite female Vocaloids. Luka will most likely be my preferred backup singer though. Only time will tell.
i lol’d at the tear grants
i like her
because FINALLY a girl that doesnt sing like shes on helium
and idk i guess i like her voice more than meikos maybe cause i like singing low too haha
finally someone with a since to hear a good sexy voice and definitely good looking
…
Jeez, husky is right. Her voice is TOO low. Sounds like a boy.
