The huge gulf between the character design used in the initial A Certain Magical Index light novels and that used in more recent volumes, as well as more widely in the anime and similar, has recently been pointed out by fans. Especially the differences in Index’s design…

There are some who speculate that the current huge popularity the series (of novels or otherwise) enjoys is all down to the new artist direction, as exemplified by Index having become something of a moe icon. Might this be close to the mark, or is it mere coincidence that such a radical revamping has taken place?

I liked all the moe-fied characters(lets ignore Touma for this), only Misaka.. I prefer the last one.
OMG! i dont know what to say! THIS is definitely 100% greater/better than the current art style!
Touma looks absolutely atrocious. Everything else is fine =D.
The first was far better, it looked far more unique than that common moe style. I wonder what happened for them to change the style, assistants perhaps ?
The moe look probably has a bigger market and sells better, thus improving the bottom line for the studio. The studios are in this to make money, not artistic statements, so what sells is what you'll see.

i like index's original look. but most the others (touma excluded) looks better in moe.
I personally prefer the moe characters including touma
I've preferred the more recent art style, including the anime's character designs to the earlier ones, even if the early designs did have quite the unique look to them.
Back to my C75doujinshi of Index, now...

...And they let go of the awesome old designs to have the same moe look as everyone else. For sales.

Is the anime actually any good for anyone looking for real entertainment, not just for some moe?
I dropped the anime after 4 episodes, pretty rediculously forced drama and character reactions at some point.
Touma's original look is more manly. I don't like the Shonen Jump-ified later version.
Hey, at least the intitial novel design is more Tsundere.
