The imminent third season of troubled baka-yarou anime Minami-ke, Minami-ke Okaeri, has been unveiled in modest detail with the release of a brief trailer, allowing a fair comparison between the three seasons.
Minami-ke fans are seemingly split between those who consider the new series to represent a complete collapse in design quality, and those who think it compares well with Okawari. We need not consider the other possible opinion, vanishingly rare as it is.

Never really noticed a big change in animation between the first two seasons and enjoyed them both. But now it's noticeable..
Im one of those that didn't mind the second seasons change in art, I liked both seasons honestly, they both managed to entertain me and make me laugh, so its all good =p
i agree, season 2 looks different, but imo
it adds more character as the personality in season 2 did mature alot, and the art reflects that.
but season 3.... UGH shudders

Season 3 will probably be just as Great, but the animation does seem to be the weakest of the 3. Look at them in their side views. They look so very flat and awkward.

Why the hell didn't they just stick with the first studio? Didn't they learn their lesson after season 2? Now they're making an even more craptacular season 3. I actually like this series, but god damn who the hell keeps picking out the shitty animation studios.
Isn't the first studio (horribly inconsistent to begin with. Remember Yoake Mae Yori Ruri Iro Na -Crescent Love-? Same studio and core staff, but a huge difference in quality) responsible for animation this time? asread is producing the series, but I'm not sure if we can blame them for any drawing/animation collapse since that got outsourced to Doumu.
By each version they just keep getting weirder and weirder...

Put it this way:
Remember when people bitched about Jar-Jar Binks and the "prequel" trilogy in comparison to the original trilogy? Same thing.
It's the whole "New Coke"-thing, something is changed (in this case noticeably changed to worse) and everybody wants the good old version back.
You speak as though you believe people should watch anime regardless of the quality of the content solely because... it's Japanese. I don't know about you, but I like to spend my free time watching shows that I appreciate, not just whatever's on. At the very least, I think that's better than the alternative; happily taking in any sort of "foreign media" with complete indifference.
Just my two cents.

Oh come on. Minami-ke is in no way some heavenly masterpiece that should not be touched. The first series was slow and hit-and-miss with a pretty bland style. And while the second series had a shitty story about some annoying neighbor kid, and some bad art choices (ie black faces), it had an appropriate directorial style for a comedy show.
I, for one, look forward to seeing more antics of ten year-old transvestites.

dont know why everyone is bashing on the 2nd and 3rd seasons character designs. As long as that slice-of-life touch is in this series, its always got time for me.

I loved season 1 + 2, but season 3 could become another ZnT 2.

The teardrop mouth thing just doesn't work with season three design. And while I love that they kept Chiaki a blonde, it just looks like a retread of season two, with a feeble attempt at season ones design charms.
But really, who gives a shit about the art direction, what made the first season so good wasn't the art, it was the story and script. As long as they don't fuck that up like season two with the Linkin Park Kid side story, it'll be fine.
In this anime dark-haired girl looks like a dog O_o and... is this a sequel of Minamike 2nd? How strange, starting from "2nd", well, whatever...
And also, why is it being compared to Minamike?
