It looks as if Afro Samurai creator Takashi Okazaki is something of a Star Wars fan, and a collector of interesting art: here we are granted a look at some of the works in his possession, the most notable of which are the interesting Japanese traditional style renditions of various scenes from Star Wars.
Japanese artists seem unafraid of taking on more modern (check the bottom of the gallery) or less reverant themes in a traditional style (although much of the traditional work has come to be seen as influentially modern), doubtless encouraged by successful works fetching high prices (or rather, “being artistically recognised”).
As you have probably realised, these photos ensued from a meeting of the good Danny Choo with Okazaki, so if you’re interested in seeing more, and on hearing some interesting tidbits from their conversations, please do take a look.
I saw Okazaki live at a german convention… he is a cool guy, and played Jan-Ken-Pon against me (better said against the whole audience)
I won a kind of towel of Afro-Samurai…now in use as a wallscroll.
He is really funny, if you have the chance too see him… go at it 😉
Darth Vader:”Ruuku, Ore wa Otousan da!!!”
Luke: “IYAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!”
