Ero-Doujinshi vs Doujinshi Ranking

The world of fan made derivative works in anime, manga and games is vast, and as anybody who has pursued these works looking for something a little more erotic than is officially provided knows, a large portion of them are erotic in nature.

However, it is certainly not the case that all, or even the majority are such; a vast body of less noticed doujinshi exist, covering all manner of fan fiction. Below is reproduced an investigation of the numbers of these works published versus the number which are adult in character.

The results are instructive:

• Results are ranked from highest ero-rate (1.00/100%) to lowest.
• The results include titles which are out of stock.
• The results also include titles aimed at a female audience.
• Doujin CDs are included as well as actual doujinshi.
• These represent results culled from major doujinshi retailer Tora no Ana’s substantial catalogue; this is a mere subset of the full range.
• The results were collected on the 31^st of October, 2008. 122 titles feature.

The average rate of ero-doujinshi versus normal doujinshi is 61% ero, but 47% of all the doujinshi here are ero-doujinshi (titles such as Maria-sama have massive amounts of non-ero-doujinshi). It is not clear if the stocking policies of Tora no Ana have a bias toward one or the other type or doujin works.

Executive Summary: There are a lot of ero-doujinshi, but more non-ero. To Love-Ru is ero-manga gold.

Looking at the top ranking titles (which are dominated by pantsu and oppai titles, along with tsundere titles for some reason), we might draw a general conclusion to the effect that ecchi or romantically themed titles tend to attract ero-doujinshi like moths to a flame.

However there are certainly plenty of romantically inclined titles which seem not to place particularly high, such as the Key titles visible just above, so this conclusion may be unsatisfactory?
