A man was lately greeted by a friendly looking sort whilst about town:
“Mate, I got an iPhone I nicked from the shop over there. They’re normally 4,000 yuan ($600) y’know, but I can let you have this un for 500 yuan ($70), ‘ow about that then?”
The friendly thief showed the man the iPhone, let him examine its fine design, and use its svelte touchscreen. All was as it should have been. Quite the bargain, thought the man.
“Ok then, lemme just give you this new un I got ‘ere…” So said the vagabond as he fished out a new and shiny iPhone from a package he had with him.
The man confidently hefted it and examined its exterior, finding it identical to the old one he just saw, and being satisfied, he returned home with it.
Finding it to not work, he quickly opened the casing to check for a fault…
Oldest trick in the book?

And that is why you should always buy things officially, or if you're at least buying them like this, then through someone you can easily track down should they screw up
Well, one thing that could be done with that phone... If the cash was readily available, go to the store, buy a real new one, keep the receipt, go back and return it for an exchange (the fake one) and say it's faulty. Places like walmart won't check it.. almost 95% of the time. But then, thats what i would do, why? because it worked with my PS2, when they were still new, i exchanged a dead one for a new one. It's my little scam. Worked 3x.
Hahaha, I've done this quite a number of times. If any of my electronics breaks, I drive up to whatever store that has the identical item, buy it, swap out, then come back later to return. Quick and easy.
Many Chinese stores don't accept returns.
what happend the fourth time?:P
iPhone, meet iPhony.
I'm sure you meant myPhonies.
poor guy. he got con'd
yeap, oldest trick in the book. and that buyer is stupid enough for not checking the newer phone offered...
Nice touch, making it sound as though the guy selling the iPhone's a chav.
I don't really feel bad for the buyer at all. Its his fault for being so naive. If anything is that cheap you should question why because most likely there's a gimmick behind it
Well, the seller said it was cheap because it was stolen.
But thats right what the buyer deserves, buying knowingly stolen goods is a crime too.
You know what they say about things that seems to good to be true...
So that's what they look like inside!
Gives a whole new meaning to a bricked iPhone.
Haha, I actually laughed at that.
So he tested the older one that he was given first, found it to work, but then just accepted the shinier second one without testing it, too?
Odd.
Stupid people getting conned. What a wonderful world :D
The failing of Japanese society.
It would be rude and be an imposition to stop him when he suggests you take the "Other new one" instead of the one he showed. It's also embarrassing to yell and scream when you get groped in a subway.
We need some new outspoken anime role models that don't put up with shit.
Umm. What Japanese society? They mentioned yuan, so I'm pretty sure this happened in China. And it doesn't mean anything more about Chinese society than it did about Japanese. What it does seem to indicate is that there are stupid people all over the place. Including, so it would seem, on the internet.
I liked how this Japanese crook had such a Cockney accent...
wait...
U guys sure this is in Japan? O.o
It has a "CHINA" tag. ^^;
And the prices given were in yuan, not yen...
Hey dude, your iPhone looks kinda bricked...
I was once almost scammed like this. I was leaving a market in downtown Guadalajara, and some dude suddenly approaches me while my friend was buying a watch from someone else. The following dialog ensues:
- Yo, yo, buy me this perfume! $8, 100% original, no worries!
- Thanks, but I just spent all my gold up there (bullshit!)
- Yo, yo, it's bona fide original shit, brought from the States, where quality control is damn tight!
- Thanks, but I don't have any gold.
- Yo, yo, I can spray you a little bit so you can smell it! No toxic shit, nothing!
- Thanks, but I can't buy it.
- Yo, yo, buy it plz! I just nicked it from a store and I gotta sniff some yayo!
- Thanks, but I can't buy it. *turns to pal* Armando, I'll be waiting at the Jewelry Center! *walks away*
idiot.
Good thing where I come from, when it comes to gadgets, one of the first things customers do before making the purchase is to TEST IT LIVE (eg if a phone, it must be turned on, and be able to make a call).
Of course, I never buy stuff from a stranger I would bump into in the street like that. I only buy in reputable stores (and I can ensure that by only going to good Shopping Malls, and there are lots of them here).
So, is there a factory in China producing Iphones without anything in them, or is this just a fantastic piece of work from his schools arts and crafts lessons?
There's one born every minute.
Considering that the con artist had to make it weight exactly the same as a real iphone (probably not as easy as it sounds) and for all we know, nothing was actually stolen, I say good for the con artist. Like a previous commenter said, knowingly buying stolen merchandise is also illegal, so who cares if some asshole lost out on 70 bucks.
I just bought a MacPro and it was shipped straight from the factory in Shanghai China to me, lol.
I don't think you should purchase stuff on the street with chinese money from a guy who has an Australian accent in the future.
oh the res4 reference lol
will.welcome to china.
Well he should've atleast tried to turn it on...
haha he got scammed XD
lord how dumb do you have to be ...
Sweet ero deck of cards hider.
This is very common here, you know. Beause of that, be very attent to what you buy on the street.
lol $70 paper weight XD
your a fool if you dont check it even knowing its Stolen... hell buying stole is stupid...
PWNED
at least it didnt explode in his pocket...
*sigh*
this reminds me when I was a young con-artist just starting out. god i was good. but now i work for law enforcement =P
funny how things work out that way huh?
you're still gonna burn in hell lol
