The Touhou Project has finally given rise to an anime, 夢想夏郷 / Musou Kakyou, to be distributed at the upcoming Comiket on DVD, and featuring an all star seiyuu cast despite being a doujin product.

博麗霊夢 / Hakurei Reimu: 中原麻衣 / Mai Nakahara (Higurashi’s Rena, Clannad’s Nagisa, Utawarerumono’s Yuzuha, etc)
霧雨魔理沙 / Kirisame Marisa: 沢城みゆき / Miyuki Sawashiro (Rozen Maiden’s Shinku, Kannagi’s Tsugumi)

The DVD will be distributed as a limited edition box set, for ¥2,800, and including an OST CD, a collection of pictures, postcards, etc.
C75 release details are as follows: 月曜日（二日目） 西地区 “あ” ブロック 41a.
Sales through the usual distributors will follow afterwards. Odd for them not to opt for Reitaisai?
An anime adaptation was inevitable, as Touhou is serious business, but for a doujin anime to be managed is rather surprising.
Doubtless not the last we hear of the anime, though it would be surprising for it not to eventually be adapted into a professionally produced series, as the copyright objections raised thus far seem more like stalling than any genuine obstruction?

This is probably why they hired an all-star seiyuu cast. To make up for the lousy character art. The background looks ok though.

I think the art could use some improvement, but I've learned not to expect much out of Touhou in that department after a while.
Eh, it's not bad. Just not the kind of style that's popular with anime these days. As long as they keep consistent quality it's fine as is for me.
I haven't been so excited in ages. Of course, this could still end up being an epic failure.

What's the name of the anime version of Touhou going to be? Is it just "Touhou Anime"? I hope they have an epic name for it (like Immaterial and Missing Power), not a lame name like "Touhou Anime".
We get an anime adaption of a well known doujin game, which is good, and people just had to find complain about stuffs? Proves that Americans really like to whine.
It's because the previous attempt at an anime adaptation of the same game was made of epic fail. Soundholic's story was at the level of bad fanfic, and their animation wasn't even as good as this one.
That being said, if Maikaze's story is halfway decent, and the seiyuus aren't phoning it in, this will be awesome despite the so-so art. I don't think the art is outright bad, personally, but I guess some people's mileage might vary.
I hope and expect this to be better than that crappy touhou anime by sound holic.

Proponents of the Maikaze-style art on NicoNico claimed it looks like ZUN's drawing with a little less of the mannerism. And in a way, it does look so.

Maybe because someone already released a doujin Touhou anime a year ago.
I've always been wary of a proper touhou anime because whenever something gets an anime, that is usually when it hits the big time and then you get the mass influx of retarded fans getting interested in it.
Oh well, the touhou panel I'm trying to get going for Sakura-con, pending they finally get back to giving me an e-mail regarding its acceptance, was designed to help deal with something like this should it happen so it isn't that bad.

Ambiguous romanization. It mostly resembles the widely-used Hepburn style, which really should be Tōhō with macrons above the O's.
