The Vipper responsible for the notorious cosplay event reports centred on Tsukicon and Connichi has one more report to share with us, whether we like it or not; this time the event in question is the 2008 AniMaCo, which is cryptically described as “Die Anime und Manga Convention in Berlin”:
Less Naruto, as well as more passable cosplay, and perhaps even some good cosplay too, tend to place this above the Finnish event. Not surprising given the larger population on offer, perhaps.
I will refrain from other comparisons out of repect for the participants, but it must be remembered that even in Japan or elsewhere, the majority of such cosplay is lacking in comparison to the sort of thing generally regarded as win, height not withstanding.
In case you were you victimised by this Vipper’s apparent insistence on using a five-year-old mobile phone to take his pictures, along with his near complete absence of photographic skill, you can have your revenge, or perhaps successfully hunt him, with this picture of himself he offers:

In reference to image #30:
HOLD IT!
You point forward when you raise an objection, not up!
The worst part of this is that some are gender ambiguous in the wrong way! Normally I can tell a trap, but these, jeeze...
Light on the "not so," heavy on the "failplay"
I should sue for false advertising!
And I thought the cosplays around here were so-so, but after seeing the two posts about the cosplays I've to say people here are very good compared.
Also, the major difference is that in Asia most (I would say around 80~90%) are woman and they cos/crossplay without a problem. And every where else, guys usually cosplay guys and girls mainly cosplay girls.
seriously, "not so" should be removed. Good german cosplayers do exist(i know because i am from germany) but half of these are 3d-pig-disgusting, and 90% of the rest is just normal bad
"Not so failplay" What're you talking about?
I will never ever go back to Germany ... ugh
WESTERNERS CANNOT COSPLAY JAPAN SUPERIOR AT IT DESU DESU DESU DESU KAWAII!!!!!111! JAPAN IS MY NEKO-KITTY. ^_^ ASIANS ARE SO KAWAII AND GOOD IN COSPLAY DESU DESU.^_^ JAPAN IS A PERFECT PARADISE OF GOOD LOOKING GIRLS AND BOYS DESU DESU.^_^ STOP COSPLAYING YOU FOREIGNERS.^_^
Such a cute troll! *gives a cookie*
Now, regarding those cosplays (or attempts at cosplaying), some of the costumes look good, but their poses or expressions just don't combine at all, but at least they look some what like the characters. As for the rest, I will just say that they could be even worse. Like a Portuguese guy that "cosplayed" as Larva (from Vampire Princess Miyu) with just a white sheet covering part of his body. He even gave the bullshit that he was cosplaying that character for the first time on the entire world. The Portuguese anime "community" never fails to amuse me.
But anime characters are designed not to look very Japanese in most cases.Huge eyes, different hair colors. They're not much more accurate at cosplaying if you think about it.
Ich liebe Deutsche Cosplay :D
84 85 86 cute as buttons
Caucasians and conplay just fails hard, no matter how ward they try it just looks wrong and silly.
Same silly when Japanese try to be gangster rappers.
Stay with your own stuff and let the asians do cosplay, noob weaboo's.
What part of this is "not so failplay"? Face it, westerners are too big to cosplay petite anime characters.
wow,if a bunch of those are not man cross dressed, ewwwwwww, i only saw 2 cuties, and you'd think there would be at least one asuka cosplay in germany
you say not so fail but this is definitely fail.
Ha ha ha!
Number 56's「これを読めなかったらバカだよ」.
Quite good, but backfired as I can so ,in the eyes of the writer at least, i'm not stupid.
Also, those who can't will never know that they are being said to be stupid, unless they learn to read it of course...
Kind of reminds me of the last Star Trek Convention I attended, somewhere back in the 80s.
They even have a Wookie!
this guy needs to learn how to take pictures.
and forgive Germany and Finland for not having a conveniently placed Cosplay Factory Shop within their country.
on another note. Germans sure are tall and long faced. that is interesting.
@Kageryu
these few pictures do not represent cosplay for one country alone.
people pick out Cosplay pictures done by models from Japan, and the automatic thought is "Japanese are good at cosplay kawaii!"
while (like all over the world) there are many trial and errors when it comes to this hobby.
@Shimu
if that was the way of thinking for everyone, then people wouldn't cosplay at all.
Weaboos will scream FAIL when foreigners do equally to better cosplay than the Japanese because its a natural instinct for them to be a dumbass.
Good Soul Eater cosplay. Who's the guy in the blue suit supposed to be? LOL
Nice Boat.
Artefact told a lie. This is still pretty fail
Why? ;_;
Because they don't take themselves seriously.
It is still marginally better than the Finnish event, is it not?
U know, all the generalization is incorrect, even this one.
Well at least one of the pictures IS from the Finnish cosplay event - #83. The text on the paper on the wall is in Finnish. Who knows if more of these are from the wrong convention..
Hitler would not be proud of this...
I dare say Tojo wouldn't be proud of Japan either, but that's too bad.
OH MY GOD
some of these cosplayers must be realy realy crazy.
There should be a warning.
"carefuly clicking because you may be blind after looking"
Und ich sag das als Deutscher ^^ xD
But some costumes look realy sweet and nice.
Greets from Bavaria

DOES NOT COMPUTE!
Quite unexpected seeing another report from a german convention here. What is next? Animagic 2009?
If it turns up on 2ch then it is fair game.
wäre auch gerne dort gewesen
auch wenn es schon wirklich schreckliche gestalten rumrennen.
ich denke paar davon waren auch auf der GC
my god german people they are really tall XD
jajaja
Yeah... we are. :p
Well I was honestly fooled by the first two images, to which I then began to shove my fingers down my throat.
But then again, the white bikini clad monster killed me on the inside and has set a new level of 'MY EYES, THEY BURN!!11!!!!1'.
If you allow me, I'd get the "not so" from the title and scrape it out. :P
I mean, apart from the first few pics, Tsukicon pics are looking better than these... :P
I want to see a "Hello Kitty" cosplay
NAO!
After the rant I gave to the Finnish fail, I'm pretty empty on the hate-filled bile I usually have for failed cosplay, so I'll try to focus on the good points, as, after all, it's better than Finland.
The expressions of many of the cosplayers still need to be dragged from that "Hey look a camera!" set of wide eyes and fake, uncalled for smiles, but I've just about given up on that, as it seems only the cosplayers at Comiket seem to understand that the cameraman doesn't want to see you, he wants to see the character you're cosplaying, and they certainly wouldn't smile like they haven't had their picture taken already a billion times.
It's good to see more variety, but the quality of the costumes is dodgy, ranging from god awful, to cheap and gaudy, to pretty good, to pretty excellent, but nowhere near said Comiket cosplay Gods and Goddesses, although like the facial expressions, I've pretty much come to accept that too.
Hm, I guess that's really it, I still say people need to understand that certain people should not cosplay certain characters, but now I'm just being overly critical and nit-picky. However I do think everyone should try to put the most effort they can in trying to do the best cosplay possible, if everyone did that then cosplay could ascend into being an art form or in the eyes of the media in some countries, a respectable culture, instead of just a prolonged Halloween.
Note that while I say everyone should put as much effort into making the cosplay look good, I still admire the man who can cosplay a female character, simply because of their love of the character.
It's a double-sided argument. I understand cosplay is a fun thing to do and people just want to enjoy themselves, and perhaps it's just my extremist otaku insider voice that has all the bitching to do, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't completely understand where the Nagi-sama enthusiasts who got pissed off when they found out that she might be second-hand, were coming from when they voiced their outrage.
I dunno, Germany does cosplay better than Finland, and I'm an extremily critical and ornery son-of-a-bitch.
I don't like the idea of cosplay. Why spend all that time and money to pretend you're someone cool when you could be spending that time and money on actually being a cool person instead?
I must ask, is this a joke? The huge majority of these costumes are alot worse than Fínnish-ones. Only thing different are the quality of the pohotos!
Still yes, your right, Germany does more good looking cosplays than Finland. And now I jus say LOL. In Finland we have 5 million people. Now think how many in Germany. 82 million! Wake up people, wake up! Have you ever heard of proportion? Now, when we use this mathematical thingy with our brains the result is.... FINLAND KICKS YOUR ASS!
I've always thought that certain people shouldn't cosplay certain characters~
Like that Agito/Akito cosplay, please be of a small body frame to attempt him ~ _~;
Well.. i think they say this in 4chan, and i can't quote in full but.. "this is why westerners shouldn't cosplay?"
Or should i make that Germans? Your pick.
#20 is both a trap and has a elongated/mutated left arm
Convention Cosplay is bad most times.
Surfing on NicoNico i found really good "foreign" Cosplay which surprised me. Before I thought for excellent cosplay you need to be somewhat asian looking. But see for yourself (a little help if you cant type in japanese signs, 海外コスプレ)!
The funny thing is, i read many comments from japanese users saying foreigners might even have better cosplayers while i thought japanese are better in Cosplay. I think its becuase you are more used to the faces and able to see small flaws, which someone with another ethnic background wouldnt notice.
Nabeshin cosplay...? Oh well oh well.
Who's the dude with a stache and blue suit cosplaying as? (#73)
So much phail
Suiseiseki was pretty good. Aeris would be too, if she didn't look like she was fucking thirty.
The title on this article was very misleading~
I will feel bad if I express how I feel about 99%, no scratch that, ALL of these pics. I would love to cosplay my fav character, but I would look dumb. That why you should pick something that you can pull off... And the fat middle aged Ichigo was hilarious! Was that too mean?
lol second to last picture
