You wil doubtless recall that none too convincingly animated psychological strangeness anime Chaos;Head is set exclusively in Shibuya; call it tracing, Photoshopping or otherwise, the resemblance has been carefully achieved (or perhaps just cheaply obtained) by way of reworking photographic scenes, which you can see in comparison below:
Clannad, Kannagi, Ga-rei Zero… there seems to be a multitude of anime employing this technique heavily of late. As long as they do not go to excess, as exemplified by Someday’s Dreamers, few seem inclined to complain.

I always like these comparison things. Well, another place I need to visit while I am here in Japan.
i enjoy the comparison's, it gives a nice sense of what if it was like in the world of chaos head, in a realistic viewpoint.
Dang. Hmm, wouldnt anime be cheaper to produce if they took screenshots of their locations and just applied a cel shade filter to them? (since they already look very much like the real thing, they'd only have to remove IP's and TM's)
Already been done, and it sucked.

I don't think this is overkill. At least they're not trying to make it ungodly-realistic.
Plus, I'm sure some fans(as evident in the pictures) are intrigued by seeing some places they walk by frequently in an anime.
Given the emphasis of Shibuya as the setting in the anime, the fact that the artists/animators try to accurately potray the city via the use of photoreferences should be grounds for commendation instead of condemnation.
Arty isn't condemning the show here, though.
Pity it's been too long since I've loitered any amount of time in Shibuya for the anime's closeness to reality - I'm don't recognize that Animate at all. If it was Ikebukuro instead...
I'm enjoying the show, if any one here is looking for a recommendation.
I certainly think it would be trippy to find part of my hometown the set of some animated feature.
"Woah, I know that place! I go there like every day... wait, is that a caricature of me??"
*While enjoying the show*
WWW, that was funny. OMG! Is that my house getting blown up?!
Good Job.. Chaos;HEAd is my one of my favourite animes this season.
Guess that took most of the budget
That black empty-eyed prow-shaped building scares me...
Looks like some evil mecha-head.
Knowing Japan — It probably IS.
Where's anime Tenchou in Animate? lol J/K.
Chaos;Head is based on places in Japan.
chaoshead-2d-vs-3d-31.jpg building head looks sinister
chaoshead-2d-vs-3d-31.jpg looks jolly.
Yay for unintentionally face'd objects.
I recognize some of those locations from the game, so presumably the authors of the original visual novel took inspiration from said real locations in Shibuya too.
I forgive them for creating an original scenery from scratch is really hard
I COMPLAIN!!!
It will be hard keeping track of and visiting all these awesome places when I go to Japan. :)

well, in C;H's defense, the show WAS SUPPOSED to be set in Shibuya.
wait, didn't they use that mc donald's in GANTZ as well?
I loved how they just slightly changed the names of places in the anime from the real ones.
