GDH & Gonzo Sacking 25% of Employees

After announcing its intent to radically restructure and halve output, so as to avert losses which could otherwise lead to rapid bankruptcy, Gonzo and parent GDH have begin thinning out the numbers of their employees, as well as executives, starting immediately by recruiting 50 people for “voluntary redundancy”.
GDH itself only has 50 employees, whilst Gonzo has another 150, so these numbers represent a drastic cut and a sign that whatever emerges from the restructuring is not likely to be the same GDH/Gonzo as before.
Those who take a chance with the voluntary rather than involuntary sacking will get a paltry one month’s salary as bounty for their own heads, so we can but wonder what they intend to give any involuntarily dismissed people should they have to resort to this, as seems quite possible.
Selling off anime production assets as they intend will strip away even more employees, so doubtless they are hoping to minimise the number of outright sackings required.
The major franchise (of interest) this looks to be endangering is the highly successful Strike Witches series, which seems set for a new season. Fans must hope so profitable a franchise is out of the danger zone, though they have ominously been talking of focusing the reformed company on “casual” anime.

gonzo have some good anime series but my favorite is strike witches. for god sakes, i dont care if its another studio or gonzo i just want a good second season of strike witches (with more yuri) :D

one thing about Gonzo, is that they stand out and make things fun.
it is there directing that can be an issue, they dont know if they want to be comedy drama, or ero horror.
they do get some good animators though.

I'd have thought Strike Witches WAS 'casual anime'. Given how profitable Strike Witches must have been it'd be safe to assume a second season would be a priority if they can do it.
No, casual anime is Crayon Shin-chan. Strike Witches is targeted towards specific fetishes (moe, shoujo-ai, guys who like machines)... so I'm betting it'll either get outsourced and end up like Nanoha (if they're lucky), or it'll get the axe.

I think that's awfully callous of you. Gonzo has produced a number of excellent series and has always had the interests of foreign fans high in their minds.
Probably because they can't turn a profit in the domestic market and have to rely on weeabo idiots to turn out a meager profit and now apparently even those morons aren't going to perpetuate that company of fail.
Actually, Strike Witches was way more popular in Japan, than among weea- err, than in the west.
Actually Gonzo has produced a huge mass of terrible series, including Strike Witches, and has mostly failed to do anything but a first episode of an anime asset.
I am glad that a company so full of flaws that has benefitted the visual culture in less ways then it's competitors is finally getting what it deserves.
tl;dr: And nothing of value was lost. Including Strike Witches.

Got to hope Strike Witches's otherwise near-guaranteed sequel isn't too badly affected by this. Still, taking into account the near-11 thousand DVD sales figure for the first DVD volume, plus the huge buzz about the series, a sequel would seem to be a license to print yen.
