An interesting 2D vs 3D comparison of some of the scenes in yuri gore anime Ga-rei Zero emerges:
The good source even has a video of this absolutely fascinating mural.
Some subtle changes in the child drawn mural are in evidence; presumably (perhaps understandably) they felt the need to enhance it?

depending on how its done
some photoshop backgrounds can be far too clean compared to the rest of shows design.
a few cracks, some weeds, some paper on the ground
indication of waring etc.
its one thing to say i like good backgrounds
its another when the background stands out so much that it looks unnatural.
some people already said it right, just let me add this:
is that wrong? don't we all prefer a good realistic background (if thats the purpose) instead of a semi-decent one?
Calling this "photoshop" is going too far. These are drawn completely from scratch. If using real-life places as source material for your art is "photoshopping", then da Vinci and Monet were photoshoppers.
Let's not confuse work of this quality with the stuff you'd find in Gun-do Musashi.
At least it looked GOOD
Great... now im paranoid...
Somebody please tell me they've used the first location in some other anime... Negima? DaCapo?
Because if they haven't then I've had a few dreams of that place D:
Lol no one actually thinks that these were directly photoshoped pics right? Unlike that show about magic, these backgrounds were just drawn using real life pics as a base.
I think they are for the most part perfectly fine.
The near identical replication of the murals is going a bit far, however....
Though, I suppose it's an effective idea if they want to drive in the fact that the wall featured is EXACTLY that wall (where the fact it's a recognizable, real life setting is important).
I don't watch the show, so I can't really know the context.
err.... what?
photoshop and tracing is very different!
If its photoshop it will be 95% indentical, but in this case it looks TRACED from photo, a technique that very common on creating background on manga and anime.
And what the hell people want anyway? a really original background that not exist anywhere?? Do you know how difficult it is to create just one background!??
I swear either all Japanese parks are built the same or that park has appeared in quite a number of anime.
If I'm not mistaken, I'm pretty sure the first photo was in Magical Pokan too.
and Kanon... i think.
And Kaze no Stigma too.
