A 14-year-old schoolgirl face charges after a drunken rampage in which she beat, and badly injured, a teacher who thought to stop her.
The girl and her middle school classmates apparently started drinking some shochu based drinks at a local supermarket, and quickly became inebriated.
Soon they began to run amok, causing such a ruckus that a shop employee called in a teacher from a nearby school to straighten them out.
He arrived, and began to lecture them, but the girl took exception and attacked him, beating him and breaking his nose severely.

Why not call the police?
because, usually in Japan anything that happens with the students, the school have to deal with it.
so... if a student kill another student, doesn't matter if it's inside or outside of the school, sometimes the school is the one who have to pay for the student's damage not the parents.
so... if the problem is a drunk student, then it's normal in Japan to call someone from the school.
I think that police is for more serious thing or something that is not related to the school.

And have you missed the fact that nose is very fragile? Hitting a pole head-on while walking can break your nose. Heck, an elbow smash by a seven-year old can break your nose.
And it's not like the teacher just crouched down in pain and be KO-ed afterwards. Most likely he then apprehended the girl while cursing repeatedly.
But the fact that she is 14 and a girl and drunk makes her very easy to detain without even hurting her. Why'd he get hit and have a broken nose really is stupid. I got hit full force by my brother and my nose is still fine at one time we fought. But hey! shit happens I guess.
While I understand that usually when students are making trouble people call teachers, this is just stupid and must change.
The students weren't even inside school premises. And teachers are not prepared to deal with people under the influence.
