A teacher has been arrested for kidnapping and then attempting to ransom a schoolgirl, his former pupil. Police discovered the girl, the worse for her ordeal, imprisoned and bound in his residence.
The man (63), operated a private juku (cram school) from his home, where he taught calligraphy and abacus use; amongst his pupils he counted his victim, who apparently previously attended his establishment to learn the proper working of the abacus.
This girl, a high schooler aged 16, went missing on her way home after parting with friends in the early afternoon.
Several hours later, a mail was sent from her mobile to her family, demanding ¥3,000,000 with menaces: “I’m taking care of your your child. Get me ¥3,000,000 tomorrow. Don’t tell the police or anyone else. If you do your daughter’s life is over.” After this the mobile could no longer be reached.
Her parents wisely opted to inform police, who soon began tracking the phone.
The next morning, the family received a call from the girl herself, who explained that she was “ok”.
Police proceeded to investigate the environs of the station where she was last seen, in addition to following up electronic leads from the phone, and questioned the kidnapper as he left a café. He soon admitted to having her confined in his home, and police rushed to liberate her.
On arrival at the residence, police discovered the girl rolled into a futon, and bound into it with rope. She is said to have suffered a variety of minor injuries, such as bruising to her face, apparently having been beaten, but is not in serious condition. It is not clear what exactly transpired during her confinement.
The tutor was immediately arrested on suspicion of abducting and falsely imprisoning the girl.

Man, if you're going to kidnap a child, it would be much wiser to kidnap a boy...that way you're not tempted to add to your list of crimes, which would be bad for you...

Japanese culture is much different from western culture in this regard. People often admit their crimes when questioned by police as it can lead to a more lenient sentence. In this guy's case there's no doubt that they would have searched his house, in which case they would have found the girl anyway. It was better for him to fess up then and there and receive a lighter punishment.
Japanese culture and Western culture have nothing to do with this, culture shouldn't even be mentioned here?
The guys mental capacity probably couldn't handle the stress of seeing people in uniform which forced him to subconsciously confess to his misdeed?

Probably had the girl's mobile on him, which may have been how they found him.
