ToraDora Seizes Tsundere Crown

toradoratsunderedebut-19

Of the new season of anime, tsundere love comedy とらドラ! / ToraDora! is shaping up to be a definite breath of fresh air (or at least a strong gust of stale air) into the genre after the increasingly questionable efforts we have seen recently. The title even boasts tsundere queen Rie Kugimiya (Louise), so expectations are high.

Bonus points must be awarded for this scene: I have never seen this before happen before, whether in anime or otherwise. Beautifully animated as well. Perhaps he could’ve dragged her around some more though.

The usual paradoxical tsundere moe elements are in abundance, and the motive force in the story is romance; it should eventually develop into a complex five way love pentagram (?), with interesting consequences, if it follows the original novels.

Animation varies from good to excellent, though judging by the first episode is not always wise.

Seiyuu work is definitely excellent, with Aisaka being unsurprisingly handled well by Rie Kugimiya, and male protagonist Ryuji Takasu being given what may be an even stronger, relatively speaking, performance by 間島淳司 / Junji Majima (whose most notable roles so far seem only to be Disgaea side characters).

There is some very restrained erotic animation and themes, but at this stage nothing more.

The title is said to be sticking closely to the original work (a light novel series still ongoing), which of course was well received, so barring mishap the title is easy to recommend.

Of course, with only one episode to go on, matters may change, but for now it is a definite contender, and well worth watching.
