“Former” porn star and seiyuu Yurika Ochiai (Yurishii) seems to be on the verge of losing her seiyuu status, with dwindling appearances and now the news that her twelve months of monthly consecutive singles, “YURIKA 12”, has just been cancelled with only five released.
The producing company offers the informative explanation: “Due to certain circumstances, we can no longer support the Yurika 12 site.”
Many seem to be drawing the inevitable conclusions that her seiyuu career is now doomed, being damaged goods from a marketing perspective due to her experience as Lolita porn star, as well as increasing reliance on eroge for her work.
Of course an alternative (or more likely, complementary) explanation is provided when we consider that her most recent single sold a pathetic 1,200 copies a month – seiyuu idol goods may not be best sellers at the best of times (unless you have an avant-garde sense of fashion and are not afraid to use it), but such lacklustre performance probably convinces no one of her marketability.
Additionally, it seems she has only managed one anime appearance in 2008 (Hyakko), so it looks as if she will be falling back to gravure soon if she wants to maintain any exposure (as indeed she is).
She does at least still have a healthy eroge and pseudo-eroge (Yukiho of Idol Master) career to fall back on… Some say she might do well to exit gracefully (though to where?).
