2D vs 3D CG – Tales of Hearts

The upcoming Tales of Hearts, for the DS this winter, is set to have two different versions, one with cutscenes in the anime style the Tales series has traditionally used to great effect, and another in a Final Fantasy style CG style; all of this is very puzzling, but what is even more puzzling is how the two will look.
As you can see, the 3D version comes of looking like “a gang of cosplayers”, and there is little doubt which version will be selling, in Japan at least.
What happened to the witch loli? The other two aren’t bad, but as for the males…
Designers do not usually attempt to force anime style visuals onto 3D, and I think the results speak for themselves, though were they less gaudy they might be very passable. I suspect the opinion here will tend towards the anime version?
There is also some interesting speculation that the anime version is for Japanese domestic consumption, whilst the 3D version is for the barbarian markets…
I would have thought that beautiful anime style visuals would be a selling point in this day and age, but perhaps Namco is disappointed with its inability to turn the (domestically) hugely successful series into an international hit series, with repeated disappointments evident in the localised versions, and is so looking to try something new (or old), by aping FF?
Looking at the images above, I wonder if they will succeed…

I don't like the 3D thing and Tales looks much better in 2D.
Why is it again that they've opted to have the 3D thing?

Yeah, I'd assume that most people here won't like the 3D version. I didn't either, actually. But looking from the screens you provided, I'm actually kind of interested now. If I succeed in getting a DS and TWEWY before Christmas, I might have enough money saved up to but both versions by the time they come out, which i assume it just next year's summer or fall.
I prefer the 2D as well. The 3D versions don't give off the Tales vibe.
the 3D reminds me of Baten Kaitos, only they dont work... The 3D seems really off. And for a DS game I dont consumer market would care if they stuck with 2D. Most would probably prefer it.
The 3D one gives off a soul calibur vibe along with something that came from a korean video game.
The 3D version pwns the anime style in every which way. It'll prolly sell more here in 3D too. Dont get me wrong, I like the 2D style alot, but the 3D is even better. Anyone who says that the 3D version looks ugly or aweful needs to see an eye doctor....seriously.

2D better. Only one i liked in 3D was the White hair girl. Which loli scared the crap out of me.
Holy crap! The 3D version is one of the ungliest things I've ever seen in my life! At least, they could do better job like with Soul Calibur, for the sake of the God.
Hm, this would have been perfect for a poll post. Personally, I think both look pretty nice, except for that one guy in the 3D version. He looks like horrifying cross between a blue version of Rockman's Zero (the guy with the energy sword/I think his name was Zero...), a shaved general from the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, and a viking (the pigtails and the horns)...

2D is what I love Tales series for.
3D are koreans
3D doesn't have any lolism.
Looks too much like Final Fantasy? Soul Blade's intro make this intro look butt ugly, and I'm comparing it to a PSX game!!!!
