Japan’s largest sports car racing event, the Super GT, is set to see a full on itasha participant with this automobile, graced by the likeness of none other than ultimate virtual idol Hatsune Miku; the racer has just been completed (the all important chassis at least) and the photos ensuing are an impressive sight.
Although being dubbed an itasha, this is more a piece of full blown corporate sponsorship by the vocaloid makers (Crypton Future Media) themselves, and probably a shrewd one at that, given the marketability of anything bearing Miku’s likeness. They are calling it ‘mutual aid’, but nobody lets you paint their racing cars in your colours for free…
The entrant itself is dubbed the Hatsune Miku Studie Glad BMW Z4, numbered 808. The race itself, the sixth round of the current Super GT, is on the 23rd & 24th, and spans a 1000km.
Puchi Miku makes a supporting appearance.
It is not known whether the image of Miku will have any effect on the speed of the vehicle.
It has to be said, the results are rather more impressive than the usual itasha.

this blows american racing out of the water entirely. never did care for it with the ugly cars, but this is something I could get into
