Few would deny an original work by Type Moon’s top illustrator 武内崇 / Takashi Takeuchi, of Fate/stay night and Tsukihime fame, to be one capable of commanding a high price, and worth it, but a recent auction in which a single page from a sketchbook, featuring but one rather rough pencil illustration, certainly turned heads when the auction concluded at an impressive ¥456,000.
The provenance of the sketch is not, by the way, in doubt. It was drawn at a doujin event, Sunshine Creation 10, for the current seller in 2001.
That’s all there is. See a cache of the auction here, and an introduction to the origiating thread here.
Money well spent? It may, of course, appreciate…
Couldn’t anyone make a lot of money by simply copying a Type Moon image well, forging a signature and passing it off as an ‘official’ rough sketch?
It seems the sketch was done “live” at the event, so the creator could confirm it was made. Nobody would buy it otherwise.
Ah, that makes more sense. I was wondering why people would buy something like that through an online auction.
If it was Akiha I would have paid double.
