Five schoolgirls, aged eleven and twelve, were assaulted by a drunk whilst riding a train home, and passengers in the carriage did nothing to help.
An unintended use of the train furnishings, in this case swinging, has rather predictable results, as well as panchira consequences.
Probably one of the more amusing and unusual of the “Japanese will sleep anywhere” genre of candid photography, here we have a salaryman and a schoolgirl relaxing in one another’s company, whilst riding home. Cozy.
Commuters suffered repeated disruptions from a sudden spate of snake induced power outages to trains in several areas; a station in Ibaraki suffered two cases over two days where snakes found their way onto the overhead power lines, causing shorts which lasted hours and inconvenienced thousands of passengers. Another station in Niigata suffered a very similar outage with a snake being found on the power lines. The snakes involved in the attacks were all medium size non-venomous types, it is said.
The stations concerned are investigating countermeasures, though apparently in Niigata the poles in question already had snakeproof sheets to prevent errant serpents from mounting them; the snake simply forced its way through the barrier. Via Asahi.
Unfortunately, none of the snakes involved in these tragic incidents survived their ill considered ventures.

Some fantastic maps of labyrinthine Japanese subway and rail stations have been gathered by a conscientious soul here, and what struck him (and me, and likely you too) was not only the terrifying complexity of most of the larger stations, but also how extraordinarily reminiscent the maps are of something you might find in a game, or perhaps a nightmare, although I think few games would dare approach the complexity of layout in their dungeons visible here.
“I wanted to see ladies underwear”. A vice-principal who used a Sony PSP, modified to include a camera, to take upskirt photos of schoolgirls on a train has finally had his long running string of voyeuristic excesses brought to a close.
We hear that the deputy headmaster (59) of a Nagoya technical college was arrested for violating public nuisance laws aimed at preventing such covert photography, though it seems this arrest comes late in his career of serial voyeurism – he apparently was caught for same in 2001, but managed to get off with just a pay cut. No details on whether this is a Sony authorised PSP accessory.
