A man who attempted to commit seppuku in the traditional manner has been arrested because the knife he used to slice open his stomach was of an illegal length.
A 13-year-old schoolboy has attempted suicide after being caught lifting the skirt of a schoolgirl.
In the first half of 2009 some 17,076 Japanese killed themselves, almost a 5% increase on the same period a year prior.
Should matters worsen any further, the all time record number of 34,427 deaths by suicide recorded in 2003 will be broken.
A serial killer who preyed upon members of an online suicide club, suffocating them to death in order to gratify himself sexually, has been executed by hanging.

Hana Yori Dango Actress Commits Suicide

Rising actress Jang Ja-yeon, who was currently starring in the Korean drama adaptation of Hana Yori Dango (Boys over Flowers), was recently found to have committed suicide at her home in Bundang, Gyeonggi Province.
Jang’s death marks the third celebrity suicide to hit the Korean entertainment industry in the past 6 months.
An idol, known as Iori (相麻いおり), was recently driven to attempting suicide by the calumnies heaped upon her by 2ch, and is currently in intensive care.
The details of the incident were revealed on her blog by her little sister, who furiously blames 2ch for driving her sensitive sister over the edge, going so far as to say “I’ll never forgive the 2ch scum who drove my sister to this!”
We heard previously of the schoolgirl who killed herself based on a comment, “Die!”, left on her blog. Now it appears the girl (then 15) responsible for the comment, in fact her former classmate, is facing prosecution for insulting the girl and instigating a suicide.
