Star Ocean 4: The Last Hope International, the PS3 edition of Star Ocean 4, is apparently set to have additional characters in addition to the previously publicised enhancements, suggesting the Xbox 360 may have been a beta much as with Tales of Vesperia, a prospect sure to aggravate long suffering Xbox RPG fans.

The pool of Japanese Xbox 360 “exclusives” appears to be shrinking fast with the news that ero-RPG Star Ocean 4 is to come to the PS3, its exclusive status having apparently worn off in much the same way as with the imminent Tales of Vesperia.

The much heralded resurgence of the Xbox 360 in Japan appears to have been as fleetingly ephemeral as the life of a mayfly; the latest sales figures show it being outsold by the lowly and supposedly obsolescent PS2, and the PS3 is outselling it by a margin of nearly 5 to 1, also beating the Wii:

Star Ocean 4 seems to have been influenced by the producer’s unfulfilled desire to make a full on eroge, and appears to have the most erotic themes of any Japanese RPG in recent memory. The game in fact bears some striking similarities to moderately ero-themed anime…

It seems Japanese RPG publishers are convinced the western gamer will never have any truck with funny Chinese cartoons, for we hear that upcoming oppai RPG Star Ocean 4 will be stripping out plenty of its anime visuals in favour of Final Fantasy-esque computer graphics, which when combined with the completely English dub will help spare the American consumer the distaste of having to deal with anything too foreign.

Square Enix attached 山岸 功典 / Yoshinori Yamagishi, the creative force behind the Star Ocean series of RPGs, revealed recently in an interview that he would like to have made an eroge.
Whilst fans heave sighs of lamentation that he did not get his way, his bosses are doubtless yielding to sighs of relief…

Moderately anticipated Xbox 360 “exclusive” SF RPG Star Ocean 4 has has some screenshots released which show off the game in some detail, though questions have been immediately asked about the wisdom of their character design and graphical style.
The style adopted seems to be a hodgepodge of Final Fantasy style CG and classical anime style visuals, and the results seem to be mixed.
