Minori Changes Tune: “Dirty Foreigners Buy Our Games!”

ef-cover.jpg

In a sudden and unexpected about face, visual novel publisher Minori has gone from blocking non-Japanese users from its site with accusations of piracy and patronising suggestions they come to Japan if they want to play them, to asking they buy them in a joint venture with MangaGamer.

Even more surprisingly, the translations will be provided by the same fan translation group Minori was previously at pains to stop

eden-bikini-shoujo.jpg

Eroge publisher Minori, well known both for the ef series and its grotesque xenophobia, has earned itself additional notoriety for its ham-fisted attempt to take down a fan translation project by deleting the contents of their wiki and replacing it with a copyright infringement notice, and then engaging in an unseemly edit-war with site inhabitants.

ef-a-tale-of-memories-oshiri.jpg

Barbarian excluding eroge maker Minori is seemingly not content with excluding non-Japanese visitors from its site in retaliation for being forced into extremes of censorship by its own puritanical ratings body; the risible message on their site claims to be “defending our culture”, but in comments to prying Japanese media their CEO provides another excuse entirely, claiming they are protecting foreigners from making criminals of themselves by visiting their site.

ef-a-fairytale-of-the-two.jpg

Visual novel production company Minori, noted for producing hits such as Ef, Wind and Eden, has responded to the reprehensible decision by Japanese politicians and eroge publishers to ban “rape” eroge by issuing an indiscriminate and nonsensical ban of its own: they have banned all non-Japanese IPs from viewing their site.
