In 1983, young Hideki Anno had just completed a masterpiece promo for the 22nd DAICON Nihon SF Taikai, an event centered on anime and SF.
That work went on to be known as the DAICON IV video.
This, and the preceding DAICON III, were the first works done by a new and talented group of animators who would go on to become Gainax Studios.

Singer-seiyuu Marina Inoue (Gurren Lagann’s Yoko, Maria Holic’s Matsurika) has already had her impressive art skills displayed here before, and she seems to have developed quite a taste for drawing as new art of hers continues to come online.
Inoue seems to be coming closer to fellow otaku idol Shoko-tan’s level of artistic accomplishment, although not nearly as disturbing as Shoko-tan’s own guro artwork…

Popular idol-seiyuu Inoue Marina, famous for numerous roles, such as Yoko Littner from Gurren Lagann and Alicia from Senjou no Valkryia, seems also to have another side to her.
She can draw.
She may be reminiscent of another artistically inclined idol, but her illustrations are far more classy; it may also come as a relief to some to learn that she does not inlude guro art in her portfolio.

Console marketing tool and cosplay idol Shoko-tan has a well known penchant for art, and has just created a Pixiv profile and uploaded a selection of illustrations.
Rather surprisingly, in addition to standard shoujo style art covering her anime and game favourites, she has submitted a number of guro works featuring blood and grisly dismemberment; you can see the at times disturbing art she has uploaded so far below:

Artist Aoi Nishimata, renowned as the artist behind Shuffle and a variety of adult games and visual novels, has been at the centre of a storm of controversy as it became known that she was selected as a “representative” artist for Japan, to contribute an illustration to a Lucas endorsed commemorative art book. Non-fans fulminate that the opportunity should have gone to someone else…
For her part, she describes how excited she was to have no less than George Lucas himself look over her contribution, and apparently like it.
