
Square Enix has been revealing more of its final effort to milk Final Fantasy XIII dry in the form of Lightning Returns, and along with some gorgeous graphics (by ancient PS3 and 360 standards at least), the controversial evolution of Lightning’s ensemble seems to be in full swing.

Founder and former CEO of Square Hisashi Suzuki has damned the company’s merger with Enix as a “total failure,” declaring Square Enix has “no vision for the future” and pointing to its huge losses and a market cap which is now well below the company’s pre-merger valuation as evidence of the disaster.

Square Enix has announced yet another continuation of the surprisingly resilient Final Fantasy XIII series – in the form of “Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII” (“Final Fantasy XIII-3″ apparently being too straightforward) which promises further Lightning action for the PS3 and Xbox 360.

Square Enix has revealed that it will likely be outsourcing all its future big releases rather than developing them itself, suggesting forthcoming Final Fantasy titles may bear the reassuring seal of China quality even more strongly than before.

Lightning and company have ditched their futuristic threads in favour of Prada’s 2012 line-up, with Lighting in particular looking very stylish indeed in her new outfit, whilst some of her companions look almost normal.
