The ever industrious TMA is on the verge of releasing two “parody” AVs, one of idol Aya Hirano, which we discussed before, and the other of Neon Genesis Evangelion, “Ever”, with relatively high production values; what’s more, they have released streaming previews, so by all means take a look if you are keen.

Neon Genesis Evangelion merchandising certainly seems to occupy the leading edge; we hear that Evangelion fans are soon to be treated to some futuristic (?) NGE culinary delights in the form of licensed canned bread.

In one of the more unusual applications of Eva merchandising, it is now possible to store your miscellaneous objects in Evangelion branded coin lockers, with Rei, Asuka and company notionally watching over them.

Fans of Okama / Yukata / Evangelion (two out of three here) might be interested to see these fine images of of lolified Asuka and Rei in breezy mini-yukata attending a matsuri, as designed by Okama and realised by Zenko (and made by Sega Prize). These may not be new, but I haven’t seen such fine photos of them before…

The hugely popular Neon Genesis Evangelion Asuka/Rei rearing/kyouiku games have just received another iteration, under the title of 新世紀エヴァンゲリオン 綾波育成計画DS with アスカ補完計画 / Shinseiki Evangelion Ayanami Rearing Plan DS with Asuka Supplementary Plan, due for release on August 28th, starting out at ¥5,000.
It looks as though the game will follow the pattern of previous games closely, that is guiding Eva’s iconic female protagonists through their lives, but with the addition of new gameplay elements, new material and new endings, promising playability even for those having gone through the previous iterations of the title. The game will of course take advantage of the twin screen layout of the DS.

The festering genre of Japanese AV which incorporates cosplay seems to be riding the wave of Eva resurgence, and is set to get some new and truly tawdry looking NGE action. I suppose it cannot be helped that the same system which gives us copious dojinshi also allows us these kind of derivative works. Via NekoAreBlog.

Japanese recording industry mafia JASRAC reports that 2007 royalty collections for music licensing are ranked as follows:
1: 『Flavor Of Life』 宇多田ヒカル – Flavor Of Life, Utada Hikaru (Hana Yori Dango)
2: 『エヴァンゲリオンBGM』– Evangelion BGM
3: 『LOVERS AGAIN』 EXILE
4: 『ドラゴンボールZ BGM(TV)』– Dragon Ball Z BGM (TV)
5: 『涙そうそう』 夏川りみ、BEGIN、森山良子
Total proceeds increased 4.1% over the previous year to ¥115 billion, about $1.1 billion, with cable television said to be a primary factor in the revenue growth.
Flavor of Life from is from one of the many Hana Yori Dango adaptations, and the Eva and DBZ titles need no introduction (apparently international airing of DBZ contributed heavily). With even more Eva related sales on the cards it is likely the strong showing will persist.
It seems an interesting development for their sales to apparently be moving away from direct sales via CD and the like towards indirect licensing ventures. From the JASRAC fiscal reports, digested by AnimeAnime.
