The artistic style of Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt, itself a parody, is spawning parodies of its own – in this case Gainax’s Evangelion heroines Asuka Langley and Rei Ayanami fit surprisingly neatly into the roles of Panty and Stocking.
Asuka Langley joins Rei in getting an elegant ballerina figure rendition, replete with a tiara befitting a crown princess of huge anime franchises.
Storyboards from the Evangelion 2.0 movie show a scene in which Asuka was apparently hideously mutilated, having her face peeled off and pierced by “hell’s needles” – thankfully for Asuka fans, the scene was cut in its entirety.
