Code Geass Animation Astounds

Code Geass Animation Astounds

The animators for Code Geass: Hangyaku no Lelouch R2 seem to be producing some interesting work lately. You can see above and below their unique visual style, at times reminscent of one of the masters of abstract art.

Someday’s Photoshoppers (also Plagiarists)

Someday's Photoshoppers (also Plagiarists) - How many of these did they take themselves?

Having already gained an unhealthy reputation as something of a photoshop anime (some thoughts on this, and plenty of screens), it now seems that 魔法遣いに大切なこと ~夏のソラ~ / Someday’s Dreamers – Summer Skies is intent on shameless plagiarism to boot – it below you can see what is not only a most naked piece of simple photoshop filter application, but also a straight rip of a picture found on a random website, without even attribution, let alone having taken the trouble to go along to Haneda Airport to take some photos themselves.

  • I think the issue is less the mere fact of their using a photographic base, which as you point out is hardly abnormal, than simply the extent to which they have taken things; still, the... More

Someday’s Dreamers – Summer Skies

魔法遣いに大切なこと ~夏のソラ~ / Mahou Tsukai ni Taisetsu na Koto – Natsu no Sora, or Someday’s Dreamers – Summer Skies

It is not often an anime really rocks the boat in terms of visual quality or animation style, but a recent title to attract attention as just such an anime is the recently commenced anime 魔法遣いに大切なこと ~夏のソラ~ / Mahou Tsukai ni Taisetsu na Koto – Natsu no Sora, or Someday’s Dreamers – Summer Skies (for once I think the English title is much better advised), the second series of the franchise. In particular, the magnificent scenery in this anime has turned heads, but after the initial impact, there are also voices critical of the work’s visual quality.

Tsukasa Paradise (Animator Comparison)

Lucky Star's Tsukasa, animators compared in great detail, also Haruhi & Nagato

Some diligent soul has put together a most comprehensive comparison of the differences between Lucky Star’s Tsukasa, as drawn by each animator of the series, as well as Haruhi’s characters.

Since anime is generally produced in parallel by multiple teams of animators, there are generally slight differences between each team’s output, which may be very noticeable if supervision is lax or the animation is rubbish – I am not afraid to admit that I cannot tell them apart at all; their animation supervision seems top notch, or perhaps I am not looking hard enough.

However, a look at the Haruhi animator comparison on the same site does reveal some differences, however minor.

As a tribute to this dedication, I reproduce the images below, should you wish to try to spot the differences. You may also simply want to gawk at Tsukasa and Nagato. This coming from 2ch, by way of Syu’s Quiz Blog.
