I love that the Anime Experience is so "you had to be there" kind of thing. It's sooo cheap to watch anime and I feel I respect someone's opinion or insight into an Anime way more than any Comic Book stuff.

There are HOW many Batgirls? (or Super Girls?)- geez. There's Only 1 Revy from "Black Lagoon" – there's only 1 Orihime "Bleach" and then there's soo many series that you're bound to find sometime you have in common with a fellow fan.

I swear I feel Blessed knowing that Anime is sooo off the "Cheezy Hollywood" radar and I honestly would rather talk Anime with Giascle, Aneko, or Master Infamous at a Con than talk Modern Comics with Kevin Smith himself – why? Because stopped being about 'stories' and became vehicles for cultural ideas and 'Grand standing'.

Seriously, You see Harems all day in Anime but it's fun because people know it's Unrealistic (hence the comedy & escapism)- there's no Social Messages, No PC attitudes, it's just – "Hey, lets go see the girl I grew up with Naked at the Hot Springs today!…oh and bring the Alien girl we just adopted- what could go wrong?"

God, I love Anime. Fuck YOU comic book makers!

that is the problem with most entertainment they milk everything for as long as they can. you can’t get into anything besides comedies, because anything story driven you know they won’t actually progress the story they just write in circles for as long as it is profitable.

Don't get me wrong, I feel that everyone should watch it as well. It's just not a film I'll recommend to someone who isn't already into old movies. I like to start people off with comedies. Some Like it Hot (my personal favorite), Arsenic and Old Lace (which you also mentioned), Bringing Up Baby, The Odd Couple, Monkey Business, etc… are usually a few of the films I like to start people off with. I feel if they can get some laughs, they can get over the prejudices they have towards older flicks. Once a joy is established, then I like to hit them with Casablanca, The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, Citizen Kane, Wuthering Heights, Gilda, On the Waterfront, etc… If that goes over well, then it's on to musicals and silent films.

That's just my approach though. Start off light and fun and slowly dive into the rest.

i like watching casablanca with someone that has never seen it before. so many memorable lines in that movie, always interesting seeing how many they have heard before, but didn’t know it was from this movie.
