Personally, my only real motivation for either downloading scanlated manga or scanned comics boils down to money and convenience. If I’m nearly broke, getting food takes prescedence over comics and I’ll, unfortunately, download a comic rather than starve and support it. Still, if I have the money I always prefer to buy comics rather than download. The same generaly applies to manga. If I really like a series and have the money to spare I’ll gladly purchase a hard copy. The only problem with manga is that U.S. publishers are usually dreadfully behind in terms of current released volumes. I’ve heard that Shonen Jump is turbo-charging the translations of One Piece so that the U.S. will be up to date with the Japanese release. While this is greatly appreciated, they are a minority. Plus, many of my favorite titles will likely never be brought to the U.S. and the only way to enjoy them is either to learn Japanese and pay tosn of money to import them or download and read scanlations. As much as I love Nana to Kaoru, I’m almost positive it’ll never see a U.S. release. Honestly, if I ever get the chance, I actually might import the manga simply because I love the creator so much.

I learned all of the Japanese I need to know from Hard Gay and those Mameshiba commercials.

So, basically, Kubo is asking people to make anything that is not Bleach.
