The poster designer probably doesn’t realize that, in the United States, the first weekend of September is kind of a dumping ground for movies that turned out bad (only second to January).

Also, beyond the implied penises, I’m gonna have to get used to the concept of KyoAni characters with noses that aren’t just tiny dots. I mean, these aren’t pointy ESCAFLOWNE schnozes, but, still, they’re bigger noses than I’m used to from the studio.

I’m a male K-ON! fan who was hoping they’d make this anime, so I’m pleased to see it come about.

However, somehow the faces look a bit less moé compared to the ones in the initial commercial, except for the “shota”, Nagisa.

I’m a male K-ON! fan but I fully admit that I’m bi-curi… erm, just curious to see what the K-ON! team could accomplish with cute boys in a club doing cute things instead of cute girls in a club doing cute things for a slight, but not too drastic, change of pace.

DISGAEA is from Nippon Ichi Software. ATLUS just did the western localization on some of the titles.

I know the meat of this season is obviously going to be the Sisters arc, but I do hope there are some sidestory episodes (well, sidestory to the sidestory, since RAILGUN itself is the sidestory of INDEX) since the Sisters arc itself, as good a story as it is, is kind of a downer.

Oh, it’s Naruko Hanaharu, that’s why I find the spunky girl cute. I’m a big fan of KAMICHU! which he was involved in, mostly doing the manga spin-off but I think he had some influence on the character designs too. Unfortunately, the mecha and space lasers make my eyes glaze over, so I’ll probably give [...]

  • Sasazuka commented on the blog post Sony: “PS4 Gamers Will Love Using Their Real Names!”   1 month, 3 weeks ago · View

Eh, I’m an offline gamer only, but, still, I already resent having to log into an offline gamer profile to play my XBox 360, so the idea of having to log on to play PS4 isn’t very appealing to me. The fewer steps between me putting a physical media game into a console and actually [...]

  • Sasazuka commented on the blog post Top 20 Slice of Life Anime   2 months ago · View

If only YOKOHAMA KAIDASHI KIKOU could get a single 1-cour late night series, then it would probably be more recognized. 2 short OVA series with 2 episodes apiece, and the most recent episode having shipped a full decade ago now, probably isn’t enough for it to be remembered as an anime, though, if this were [...]

  • Sasazuka commented on the blog post Top 20 Slice of Life Anime   2 months ago · View

Don’t have any issue with MINAMI-KE being tops, I wish STRAWBERRY MARSHMALLOW would’ve been higher (obviously, see username and avatar) but at least it’s still recognized enough to make the top 20. I think the biggest omission is YOKOHAMA KAIDASHI KIKOU, but only 4 OVA episodes probably isn’t enough for it to qualify as an [...]

  • Sasazuka commented on the blog post Warning: JC Fashion “Reverting To Gyaru”   2 months, 1 week ago · View

Well, if gyaru/kogal fashions are back in style, Mihona Fujii should write an updated version of her GALS! manga (adapted into anime as CHOU GALS! KOTOBUKI RAN/SUPER GALS) featuring Ran Kotobuki as the most fashionable young policewoman in Shibuya. I mean, Japan is getting a new MARMALADE BOY manga, so why not a new GALS! [...]

Taiwan’s “Good China”, which means I doubt we’ll see any cellphone pics of little kids in split pants defouling the purity of moé girl train cars by openly crapping in the garbage-and-filth-strewn aisles, which seems to be a common occurrence in “Bad China”.

  • Sasazuka commented on the blog post Top 25 Gloriously Flat Anime Girls   2 months, 3 weeks ago · View

I guess that “Tsurupeta” song at the end of episode 6 of KOTOURA-SAN is what let Haruka Kotoura slide past Konata Izumi to top spot. Particularly the visual of Haruka Kotoura in her school swimsuit sliding around on her flat chest.

The anime song I find most moving is actually “Heart Moving”, the very first closing theme song from SAILOR MOON. The title of the song is not misleading.

I’m glad someone else here likes Urabe even though I seem to get voted down every time I mention MYSTERIOUS GIRLFRIEND X. Not for everyone’s tastes, but, if you get past the drool-swapping, it’s a solid show.

  • Sasazuka commented on the blog post Top 25 Anime Heroines of 2012   3 months, 1 week ago · View

At least Mikoto Urabe got some recognition in this poll. I remember another Japanese “Best Anime of 2012″ poll posted on Sankaku Complex a month or so ago where MYSTERIOUS GIRLFRIEND X was completely overlooked.

Checking the full list… Yui Hiragi from K-ON! is at #14? Uh, what? Is that for showing excessive affection for Azusa? I never really interpreted that as being anything particularly sexual, Yui’s just enthusiastically friendly.

FUSHIGI YUUGI was tied for 19th.

SORCERER HUNTERS was tied for 41st.

I’ll admit RUROUNI KENSHIN is a mysterious absence, considering it had a strong female crossover audience for a “shounen” anime.

BUBBLEGUM CRISIS (the original OVA version with “Konya wa Hurricane” as the theme) was made in 1987 and AKIRA was made in 1988.
