No, it’s not her; the anime voice actress MAKO’s surname is Sakurai and she’s only 25.

It’d be lovely if Studio Daume could return to the franchise, but it seems that most of their talent has fled elsewhere. Daume hasn’t really done anything notable since the two ICHIGO MASHIMARO OVA series or whatever that SHIKI thing is. I’m just hoping Masahiko Ohta, from the first season, returns as director, perhaps with [...]

Nothing I feel like complaining about in the top 10. Yeah, I’d rank AZUMANGA DAIOH in the top 3, but it’s a decade old and Japanese fans have short memories. Checking the full list, MINAMI-KE is #20. MINAMI-KE is about my most wanted unlicensed show (at least the first season), but… uhh… I’ve read scans [...]

I’m pleased to see that SORA NO MANIMANI is in the top 25 underrated shows, even if I’m aware it’s basically just NODAME CANTABILE with astronomy instead of classical music. I don’t think it’s happening, but I hope they make a second season eventually. KAMICHU! would be my pick for most underrated series of the [...]

Oh, wait, I should’ve said “best year since 2009 for stop-motion animation movies”, since 2009 had FANTASTIC MR. FOX, CORALINE, and 9 (though I’ve never seen 9 and the reviews I read weren’t too good).

I bet her seiyuu, Yuu Asakawa, not only buys one of these but will also tweet a picture of it.

  • Sasazuka commented on the blog post “Outrageous!” – K-ON! Movie Denied Top Academy Award   2 months, 3 weeks ago · View

Yeah, 2012 will be the best year since 2005 for stop-motion animation feature films, though the safe money at this point is probably on Pixar’s BRAVE winning. (The non-nominated CARS 2 was a movie made for merchandise only; Pixar’s still considered golden.) Assuming there’ll be five Best Animated Feature nominations next year, I can still [...]

  • Sasazuka commented on the blog post “Outrageous!” – K-ON! Movie Denied Top Academy Award   2 months, 3 weeks ago · View

Well, there’s still always the Best Animated Feature Oscar, which K-ON! could be eligible for for 2012 provided it’s submitted and it plays in Los Angeles by the end of December.

Sentai Filmworks should really get started on the Oscar campaign now. ;-)

I really like SORA NO MANIMANI, but I’m astonished enough people in Japan have a high-enough opinion of it for others to find the fans’ opinions overrated. I was under the impression that SORA NO MANIMANI was already msotly forgotten, even if the anime only aired just under three years ago.

    Astronomy club anime FTW!

Ui’s going to be upgraded to “main character” status should KyoAni ever animate the spin-off manga about her and Azusa’s third year at high school.

The PRETTY SAMMY OVA’s or the PRETTY SAMMY TV series (MAGICAL PROJECT S in the USA)? Because the OVA’s had a bit of out-of-place adult humor (raunchier than the rest of TENCHI MUYO other than maybe the “Night Before the Festival” OVA special) while the TV series was somewhat cleaned-up for the “Family Hour” time [...]

Pretty Sammy’s at #44, though, sadly, Pixy Misa isn’t anywhere to be found.

When I first discovered Japanese doujinshi websites, Pretty Sammy and Pixy Misa were all the rage. Of course, it was 1996.

Third thing, where are the SAILOR MOON girls? Were they disqualified for some weird reason?

  • Sasazuka commented on the blog post Top 25 Greatest Mahou Shoujo Ever   3 months, 1 week ago · View

Also, while I adore RAILGUN, I don’t think of psychic girls as being “magical girls” in the traditional sense, though I suppose this list is mainly just girls with any type of power, even if they don’t have a baton or a frilly dress.

  • Sasazuka commented on the blog post Top 25 Greatest Mahou Shoujo Ever   3 months, 1 week ago · View

I can’t believe Sasami/Pretty Sammy is only #44 on the list and her nemesis/reluctant ally Pixy Misa doesn’t appear at all. The PRETTY SAMMY OVA’s and TV series (MAGICAL PROJECT S in America) were pretty much the first anime productions to capitalize on the allegedly-unintended popularity of SAILOR MOON amongst the older male otaku demographic. [...]

Does the Bridget cosplayer seen in image #119 have a penis, real or prosthetic? If not, I call shenanigans since the costume is “incomplete”. XD

  • Sasazuka commented on the blog post Top 10 Most Followed Seiyuu   3 months, 2 weeks ago · View

Is there a longer list somewhere? I want to see where Yuu Asakawa @Julia320 ranks. (She’s Sakaki from AZUMANGA DAIOH, Shiryuu Chouun from IKKI TOUSEN, and currently ANASTASIA from BRAVE 10, among many other roles.) Ms. Asakawa only has 11K followers at the moment, but she may be the seiyuu most followed by English-speaking anime [...]

Here’s my top 10: 1) School girls 2) high school club, preferably “one member short” 3) delicious cake 4) boys, either not shown at all or shown as idiotic supporting characters, unless they’re traps. 5) beach episode 6) school culture fest episode 7) school uniforms 8) cosplay costumes made by an older female acquaintance who [...]

  • Sasazuka commented on the blog post Top 25 Club Anime   3 months, 2 weeks ago · View

I have no problem with K-ON! being first, even if it is the most obvious choice. SORA NO MANIMANI should be higher though, that’s a very underrated anime that’s even a small bit educational about astronomy.

I’d include TAISHO BASEBALL GIRLS, since other sports club anime made the list.

  • Sasazuka commented on the blog post Perfect Length for Manga = “30 Volumes”   3 months, 3 weeks ago · View

Eh, I recently bought volume 40 of Dark Horse’s translation of Kosuke Fujishima’s OH/AH! MY GODDESS! manga, so there are exceptions, but I generally don’t read manga that last beyond 18 volumes (i.e. SAILOR MOON & KIMAGURE ORANGE ROAD). I think RANMA ½ lasted more than 18 volumes, but I didn’t collect it past volume [...]
