Often it’s not the lack of technology but the lack of proper laws and regulations that prevent the use of alternate sources of energy.

Nuclear power has held dominance in Japan’s energy production for the last 30 years and as such most laws have given priority to it over others.

This means that even if people want to buy energy from clean sources, their is a plethora of red tape that they must go through even if it is available.

The government didn't have a choice with shutting down the reactors. They were all required to undergo stress tests and improve their safety regulations due to massive public outcry.

Now of course, putting them back on line requires not only the consent of the local government, but also the surrounding prefectures within 30 to 100 kilometers.

For example, the Oi reactor in Fukui Prefecture has the consent of the local population but Kyoto and Osaka Prefecture (which use a lot of power from Fukui and will suffer in summer if it doesn't go back online) are strongly opposed to the restart.

The only logical short-term replacement is thermal power, which will cost trillons of yen more than nuclear power until alternate sources can be found.

Kamina lives on in Simon’s spirit.

His death actually helped Simon to become stronger and it was a milestone in which he went from being a boy to a man.

I believe it was a necessary element of the story.

    Rest in Peace, Oni-leader.

Does this apply to girls in their later teens and young twenties?

Because I know a number of elementary school girls that do a lot of these naturally.

One girl says “fumu fumu” when she understands something. She reminds me of Asahina from Haruhi (minus the time traveling).

Perhaps, but I feel it’s warranted due to the normal attention span of those that watch animation.

I deal with this phenomenon everyday. It’s very important when being part of a Japanese company.

While it gets jobs finished with efficiency and preserves decorum, it does have its downsides.

For example, if given an impossible amount of work, do you:

    a) State that the task and workload is impossible and attempt to convince the boss to make a plan to deal with the problem so it will not lead to failure.

    b) State that you will “do your best” and apologize profusely when the eventual impossible deadline comes up.

In a Japanese company, “a” would brand you as lazy, a maverick, and someone who is not a “team player.”

However, choice “b” would have the boss think you are a hard worker and very sincere. Despite the consequences, you did all you could and therefore deserve praise.

Consequently, choice “b” would bring up your evaluation score.

This is said to come from the old feudal days in Japan, when general were expected to face impossible odds and apologize for not being successful. This also lead to the “seppuku” culture, that can be seen even today with the various prime ministers resigning from office in less than a year’s time each. They are maintaining the honor of their clan by apologizing for it with their “political” life.

If you are familiar with anime, you may have noticed that “effort” is a big theme in many. Trying despite certain death is very laudable in Japanese culture, and one of the reasons why Japan was so successful in its wars in East Asia.
