Medical Helicopter Called After Woman Suffers From Ingrown Toenail

A 56-year-old woman from Yokohama who was hiking in Gunma Prefecture dialed 119 to call an emergency medical helicopter for what could be the weakest reason ever—an ingrown toenail.

The woman’s husband called the emergency number at around 2:00 p.m. on July 25th, saying, “My wife injured her left foot and is having difficulty walking.” She was then transported to a hospital in Numata by Gunma Prefectural Police medical helicopter, used only for actual emergency situations and not something as minor as pain from ingrown toenails.

According to the Numata Police Station, the couple was located about 900 meters south of the summit of Mount Shibutsu. Three members of the Tanigawadake guard and five firefighters were dispatched after receiving the report.

The woman and her husband had been climbing the mountain earlier in the day, but after an investigation, the police believed that her injuries were minor.

Following the incident, the Gunma Prefectural Police issued a statement calling on hikers to choose mountains and make a reasonable plan according to their physical strength, physical condition, skills, and experience.
