K-ON hardly had the kind of individuality in design that Madoka easily offers to derivative plushies and other merchandise meant for a larger (young, non-otaku) audience, like the photo above demonstrates.

As long as Misaka is near the top, I’m happy with a pettanko list.

I’d prefer that to our country where the culprits, if by some sheer chance our undermanned police had happened to find them (quite unlikely), would have been subjected to a lecture by some disinterested official and then let walk out free. Their names and faces would have never been published. Their worst loss would have [...]

The French can be accused of many things, but only a nameless savage could call them barbaric.

  • Kaarme commented on the blog post FOX: “Japan Will Become Extinct!”   2 weeks ago · View

Unfortunately people aren’t content on surviving only, so food is merely a part of the equation. As it is, pollution and other environmental changes are reducing arable land in great many parts of the world. More and more of food is also converted into energy, raising food prices more than they would if it was [...]

  • Kaarme commented on the blog post K-ON! Ended “Because Uni Life Was Too Difficult”   2 weeks, 4 days ago · View

Based on the behavior of the Japanese otaku, you’d think they own all the rights to the characters and the story, instead of the mangaka or the publishers.

  • Kaarme commented on the blog post Hyouka Positively Smoking: “Most Moe Yet!”   2 weeks, 5 days ago · View

Compared to K-ON, the fact this show has also guys in addition to girls is a plus for me. It creates better dynamics between the characters. Especially since I don’t much care for yuri (other than Nanoha and Fate, anyway). Hard to say if the story will have any more impact, though. It hasn’t certainly [...]

Sure he’s one of you; “Anonymous”, “Anonymous”, “Anonymous”… Is there supposed to be some difference there?

  • Kaarme commented on the blog post Nyaruko-san: “The Mythos Has Never Been So Cute!”   3 weeks, 3 days ago · View

Just look at how cute she is. Any young guy with a normal libido (and who’s not gay) would simply go forward and worry about the consequences later.

  • Kaarme commented on the blog post Chikan Innocent: “Groping Her in 1 Second Was Impossible!”   3 weeks, 4 days ago · View

He should sue the state. He has got nothing to lose, after all. But perhaps it’s useless in a country like Japan. Based on the articles here, the justice system of Japan seems to resemble more that of a third world country than that of an old industrialized one.

  • Kaarme commented on the blog post 7 Die in Bus Smash – “How Did Anyone Survive That!?”   3 weeks, 5 days ago · View

It’s Japan. The driver had likely been asked to drive 12 hours long night shifts all week long. And since it’s Japan, he couldn’t say no.

It’s Saudi Arabia. He has probably already found a new home in a death squad hunting down enemies of the King. They need remorseless, unhesitating killers like this little boy. If he can kill his own dad for not buying a gaming console, he can kill anybody.

  • Kaarme commented on the blog post Ishihara in the US: “I’m Buying the Senkaku Islands!”   1 month, 1 week ago · View

After the USS Cole incident, the Americans might disable or sink any dubiously approaching boat, rather than wait for a collision. Unlike the Japanese, the US navy has a backbone.

  • Kaarme commented on the blog post North Korean Launch Control Quite a Sight   1 month, 2 weeks ago · View

Sending a single satellite of an unknown purpose to the orbit with a masked ICBM sure beats the hell out of building a manned space station, sending astronauts to the moon and getting them back, sending probes to study all the other planets of the solar system and beyond. Yes, the old space powers sure [...]

  • Kaarme commented on the blog post Otaku Grope Enako at Nipponbashi Street Festa   2 months ago · View

@Moomoo Where’re the naked women? I don’t see any. I only see a woman with nothing naked but parts of her legs, arms, and face. That’s helluva lot less than you’d see if you visited a beach or a swimming pool. It’s the most retarded logic found only in the most uncivilized countries that if a [...]

  • Kaarme commented on the blog post Otaku Grope Enako at Nipponbashi Street Festa   2 months ago · View

What wonderful logic. Analogously: Visiting an ATM = Invitation to be robbed. Driving a cool car = Invitation to be carjacked. Child of a wealthy family = Invitation to be kidnapped. You must be from a miserable slum if all that sounds justified. A cosplayer shouldn’t be surprised if low-angle photos are taken, but feeling [...]

  • Kaarme commented on the blog post Man Gets 5 Years for Raping 12-Year-Old: “4 Was Too Soft!”   2 months, 1 week ago · View

Oh, yeah. Earlier this year a man walked into a restaurant and randomly shot two workers, then himself. Turns out he had been convicted for life of a murder in 2006, but had been let out already a year ago, as the “experts” considered him safe. Just another day in Northern Europe.
