I’d just like to throw this out there since vicious brought up the whole topic of people self diagnosing and most people who have disorders still being able to “function”.

I actually DO break down. It can be bad enough that I can’t move or speak.

I actually DO physically harm myself out of stress. sometimes I slice myself open, sometimes I stab myself with something, sometimes I tear out all my eyelashes, sometimes I bite myself.

I’m not fishing for pity, but it pisses me of when you treat it like something that can be overcome with willpower alone when you haven’t experienced it yourself. And I know you haven’t experienced it yourself because if you had, you would not be able to think that way.

well let's see… I've been diagnosed with A LOT of things but I have my doubts as to how many are true

I've been diagnosed with:
-ADD
-ADHD
-Dysgraphia
-OCD
-Depression
-Anxiety Disorders
-Asbergers Syndrome

But the only ones I feel like I really struggle with are:
-Depression (and some probably Depression related suicidal thoughts)
-Anxiety Disorders
and occasionally (though it's usually a sign of some imbalance in my medication):
-OCD

Also I haven't technically been diagnosed with these but they're quite a barrier to me preforming certain activities (no sex jokes please …ok nvm this is sancom) and one is bad enough that I've had my psychiatrist prescribe me valium to deal with it:
-Fear of Flying
-Fear of hypodermic needles/syringes

**actually I don’t seem to have issues with needles when I hold them myself, it’s only upsetting to me when someone ELSE is holding one. Still it’s bad enough that I have to turn away from a TV if someone on it pulls one out.

So I’m just not going to continue this argument any longer. If you want to, I suppose you may count this as a win for yourself.

(but yeah if you could, it would be awesome if you used whole sentences and decent punctuation. I’m not trying to be a grammar nazi or anything, but even just using some commas and periods every once in awhile to separate different thoughts would make it A LOT easier for other people to understand what your trying to say.)

so I’m going to focus on them.

To answer your first question, ALL forms of government consist of people. I think what you meant by that however (and feel free to correct me on this) was to point out how those example countries all had monarchies, or dictatorships, or other forms of government where the rulers AREN’T selected from among the regular citizens by other regular citizens (although this isn’t exactly 100% true of England).
either way it doesn’t really matter, every single form of government is just a way to control many people with only a few people (or one person in some cases).

Now for your second statement, I’ll answer this one in two parts.
First is what you said about how the enemy of imperfection is to do nothing. This is so unbelievably stupid that I don’t even know why you would bring it up. If the enemy of imperfection is to do nothing, THEN DO NOTHING. imperfection is a very bad thing thing when talking about a a government your trusting your safety to. Now obviously no government is perfect, and we need at least some kind of law and order for society to function. so the correct (or at least most acceptable) solution is to create a government that has as LITTLE POWER AS POSSIBLE, just enough for it to fulfill it’s purpose.

As for why I obsess over “abuse”, that’s simply because once you give a government a certain power, it becomes VERY difficult to take it back. So you should be very careful and take the time to think VERY HARD about the matter first. Also when you give a government a certain power, that opens doors for the government to claim OTHER powers, possibly even ones you didn’t intend for it to have. This doesn’t always result from abuse either, sometimes sometimes a legitimately well meaning lawmaker can be the cause.

now, you seem to believe that I’m some kind of anarchist who thinks we should do away with all forms of law and order. this is not the case. I believe a government is a necessary evil the must be endured for people to live in a productive society. there are certain things that cannot be realistically done without one. Raising and maintaining an army is a good example. there are also some very useful laws out there, like the ones regarding murder and theft, or even the tax code.

but a government is NOT around to wipe your ass for you after you take a shit. way too many people think that the government is there to fix every tiny little problem for them.

oh btw, a good thing to remember about a government is that it’s composed of PEOPLE, people who aren’t any more morally superior than you or I. they are just as dishonest and self serving as any other human being, so why would you give them ANY more power than necessary? (and that’s not based on fear or speculation, it’s based on the track record of MOST rulers and governments)

the fundamental flaw with laws and regulations is that they make you FEEL safe. you’re not. there will ALWAYS be people who will try to hurt you (maybe even unconsciously), these people will be ignorant of laws, think they can get away with it, or simply not care (no matter how bad the penalty may be). so just learn to watch your back for your own damn self.

and come up with whatever hypotheticals you want, the fact is that nearly all of those problems can be resolved without resorting to giving up your freedom to a nanny state. besides, if you give to much power to a government, you’ll just get screwed by them instead of some private business or individual.

I 100% agree with not smoking around ppl who dislike it though, to do otherwise is just rude.

Government regulation however is WRONG, it’s not a solution. look at what prohibition did. look at how effectively we have dealt with other drugs. In the end the only thing you achieve is to strip the public of freedom and give even more power to the government.
