I am a Japanese, and interested in analyzing a matter.
If there is a matter which you want to know about Japan, please do not hesitate to ask a question. I answer. However, I am poor at English. My text may be insufficient.

Nice to meet you Clownback, it’s good to have someone with firsthand experience with Japan’s system. I understand that you may have difficulty with english, but I’ll my best to understand and won’t be too critical about it.

Well anyway, my first question is how is the situation in Japan? Like are people having trouble with employment? If they are, do you think the wages or salary are fair?

        The problem of employment.
The downturn of economy of Japan continues , after the prosperity of the second half of the 80s. Furthermore, we are anxious about the influence of the big earthquake in northeast before half a year.
However, there are many job offers in Tokyo. It is the work of non-regular employment called ”HAKEN”. HAKEN means dispatch. Their salary is low and there is not possibility of promotion. They are unmarried persons. Female labor environment is still more inferior.

There is a mechanism in the employment structure of this country. In Japan, if not employed at the same period as graduation of a university, he is not employed as regular employment until he dies. Individual capability does not become a problem. And the mistake is not corrected. Nobody writes clearly but it exists as tacit comprehension.

However, the essence of the problem is neither labor environment nor strange employment system. Pain of the maximum of the labor in Japan is compulsion of ideology.
I do not work because I resist this situation.
Workers are taught to be subordinate to a company first.
The ideology is ”Put up with non-reason”, ”You should not complain”, ”Throw away rationality”, ”You should not have your opinion”, etc. Some companies take out an employee for a training camp, and it brainwashes them using the technique of counseling.

They have not aped the movie, ”Full Metal Jacket” directed by Stanley Kubrick. This company is a major food company.

In Japan, public opinion is an ally of the government and a company. These national traits are influence of Confucianism. Moreover, it was strengthened by modernization of Meiji era, and the military organization at the time of World War II.

By this cause, the young man’s workers are alienated from society. The reason for a crime of Kato who killed and wounded people in Akihabara was loneliness. He said, when arrested by the police, ”I was able to talk with people at last.” and, The laughable fact, The action reason of the right-wing in 2ch is loneliness curing . and, In this country, 30,000 people commit suicide every year.

There are many excellent engineers and industrious workers in Japan. However, their profits are spoiled by structure of Japan. We have to organize the community, and political party representing us. but, it is difficult to reform an Eastern country.

Interesting commentary on Japan. Surprisingly, it’s not that different form most countries in some ways, but I would say Japan is a little more advanced when it comes to problems the west is about to face.

The business culture you speak of might be unique to Japan because of eastern tradition of conformity while the west is more about challenging authority. But what makes us the same is the education system.

Throughout school they tell you to study hard and listen to your teacher and maybe one day, someone will hire you and you will be employed and likely stay employed until you retire…

It’s basically saying that you will have to work for someone else for the rest of your life. When they should be teaching you how to be an entrepreneur – how to start your own business. But instead they want you to be a slave to the system.

I do share in your concern about the problems, but how does one a living being a NEET?

But anyway, another thing that is in common is it the youth who are feeling the pain of the problems of the current system. They are the ”canaries in the coal mine.”
Just look across the globe, who are marching in the street? Also online sites like this attract some of the disheartened youth looking for like minded individuals to share their and anxiety. It’s global problem.

My take on Japan was always that the otaku surge was because of alienation of youth. At first, I believed it was mainly a from of escape from reality, but I believe it is also an act of rebellion. The otaku are a force to be reckoned with, you just need to unite under the cause of freedom and then attack the root of your problems.

They may see themselves as small but all it takes simple enthusiastic minority to push the cause of liberty.

That’s right. The problem of Japan which I pointed out is a problem common to the world. In the range of this problem, Japan can say that it is slight injury. In the time of globalism, the problem of a company and workers is caught not in the national range but in the range of the international economy.

In the East, the malfunction of a labor union, shortage of a demonstration, and lack of entrepreneur education and international education can be pointed out.

Temporarily, I was working as underling manager of anime industry. Now, I am living by paltry savings, and pity of parents…..
Through a network, I talked with various Otaku and NEET of Japan, and I have groped what we should, together with them. The activity was sometimes successful and many went wrong. It is moving forward, although it is little-by-little.

However, a NEET problem is not so serious if it sees as a whole. because, Many of NEET whom I actually met were the imitation or a lie. Many Otaku, a NEET, and 2ch are only acting a certain role in the narrow community. The cause is in a cultural form rather than their character.

This trifling problem and labor problem are in agreement in that we do not know communication of a Western type.
The collision of a ”culture pattern of Japan” and ”Western methodology” becomes the argument in politics frequently.

Good to hear you’re talking about it with others, because it’s going to take quite a bit of people to fight our way through this mess and it’s only going to get messier…

What I believe causes problems for Japan, the US or any other country is the government. We all know how ineffective the government of Japan has been and I won’t say the US government is any better. It’s just that politicians, like Ishihara, running the country are corrupt and idiots. You hand these guys a ton of your money and they spend it to either oppress you or hand it to to cronies. And every mistake they make or action they causes problems for everyone.

If you want someone to blame for the bad economy, or censorship it’s the government.

Well, i haven`t followed that much in recent weeks, but everybody knows Euro as currency is now in it`s final phase of death struggle. I only hope that we won`t get too strict border & trade control among European countries, when they are back in own currencies. My country, Sweden is said to have strong own currency, but that remains to be seen during coming convulsions of monetary and financial actors.
Banks & other big financial actors certainly must be much better controlled, things have got crazier and wilder i accelerating speed during last 20 years, globally too.
Some reeling back is needed now.
Hopefully this crazy creative financing is over now. You can`t invest same resources that many times as recently, losses must appear somewhere.
I have no time just now for more, hope things in North Korea, China and Taiwan stay and become calm in future.
I am none of those who don`t think you must always bash China whether there is some new certain reason or not.
I know there is problems, but… let`s stay peaceful, as long as possible.
EU and Euro had too different countries, after all, which i feared ten years ago.

Sweden’s currency is doing much better than the dollar, so I don’t think there will much to worry about. The Eurozone will likely feel the most pain, because of the austerity they will have to undergo.

So what would you say your political affiliations are, liberal, progressive, conservative, neoconservative etc.?

Not too sure what progressive and neo-conservative is, but between conservative and liberal, I’d say I lean more towards liberal.

In America, neoconservative is the modern day conservative. Neoconservatives are authoritarians, while classic conservatives are for preserving the Constitution and it’s restriction of power.

Liberal on some issues, conservative on others. I think government should stay out of peoples private lives and bedrooms and be restricted to maintaining a reasonably safe basic living environment (health care, housing, water, sewer,, etc.). Protect country against attack.

I can’t agree with healthcare and housing, Government has involvement with both of those things and all we got get is rising premiums and a housing bubble. Though the rest I am fine with.

I just feel there should be basic food, healthcare and housing if you need it. Some plan that you can avail yourself of if you have no health insurance or can’t afford the $400 a month premiums. Nobody should have to go hungry, sleep in their car or wait until they’re so sick they get sent to the emergency room of the hospital before they get treated.
Lots of folks are falling through the cracks today because of the crappy economy while politicians worry about the next election. seems like nobody cares until it’s them in that situation. We’ve always got plenty of money to bail out banks and big corporations who turn around and give bonuses to incompetents and create business opportunities in China while deleting jobs in the US.
Sorry for the wall of text.

Well the culprit to all our problems is government, so expecting a fix from is impossible. You want a plan that provides entitlements to people in need, but the problem with that is that will suck the life of the economy.

This plan of yours requires a government bureacracy to implement, meaning we will need to expand the size of government, which means higher taxes, the private sector will shrink, and increased public dependency on the government. And sorry to say this, but the country is BROKE. We borrow the money from China and Japan, and the rest is printed by Fed.
And worst of all taxing the rich won’t solve the problem. Because that is what they want you to do. Government is like the Bankers and Corporation’s ATM machine. Every session of Congress, they send a number of lobbyist to to meet the representatives that fund their campaigns.

Why do wars continues? Because the military industrial complex makes tons of money in the lucrative arms industry and companies are fighting for natural resources like oil and metals.

Why is housing so expensive? Because prior to the financial crisis, the government and Fed was propping up the housing market so real estate people like Donald Trump could get wealthy even when more houses are were being build then market demand.

Why is healthcare expensive? It’s because the government sets rules and regulations that effectively drives up the cost of healthcare, There is virtually no competition in healthcare. For example, there is probably cheaper healthcare in North Dakota than in Jersey, but because of regulations, people from New Jersey can’t buy the cheaper insurance. So all you have is a handful of monopolies in your state.

And the most damning thing the government has done is print money to pay for the massive government deficit. Some of it is borrowed from Japan and China, but since these markets are losing faith in the American economy, the burden in placed the Fed, which funds the government by inflating the currency.
You know how the old folks have been talking about how you could buy a ton of stuff for a dollar in the old days? The reason why is cos the US has been deflating it’s currency for 40 years… reducing our spending power. Inflation is one of the major contributors to rising property value, healthcare premiums and food costs.

To desire an entitlement system is wishful thinking, because of government corruption. Social Security and Medicare were created as retirement accounts for Americans when hit a certain age. So as long they paid into it, it should be solvent, but ofc the politicians spend all the money and now are requiring us to pay into the system to fund the current generation, but the younger generation will eventually feel the burn once the aging population increases. Thus, the politicians will only continue to rob the people of their money.

And don’t forget, they write the laws.

So big government is not the solution, the answer is quite the opposite. We could live a society that fulfills the needs of the people with as little state intervention as possible. You just need to study up Free market Austrian economics and people like Peter Schiff.
