Why the lack of variety on anime design? With western cartoons you have Disney, Looney Tunes, Spumco, Matt Groening, Mike Judge, the South Park guys, and many other different creators with their own style. Most anime looks the same, with subtle differences.

These problems do not improve at all. Probably, the lowness of Japanese political awareness is caused by their religion consciousness.

Just think about it: Spain, which was a highly religious country that burned people alive for disagreeing with the Catholic Church (sexuality among those things), now has gay marriage. In contrast, Japan with its history of same-sex relationships, doesn’t even have domestic partnerships.

How come Japan features so much homosexual content in their media/culture/porn yet they have virtually no equal rights or recognition for gay and lesbians (same-sex marriage, adoption, anti-discrimination laws, etc.)? Not to mention their assumption that everyone is heterosexual (as shown in public surveys and comments).

Yet thanks to Kinsey we know sexual orientation is a spectrum and not black and white; just like with Darwin we know species evolved rather than being that way since the beginning.
