Visual Novels?

  1. With the power of torrents now within my grasp I started to take up playing Visual Novels.

So far I've only gotten Wanko to Kurasou and Snow Sakura but they haven't exactly satisfied me yet.

Can you guys recommend me some good ones to get?
Preferably romance, multiple endings, heart cringing moments...
and in English (or has a substantial english patch. I haven't learned jap enough to read it yet)

I don't mind whether there's H-scenes or not as long as the story's good.

And I use a Vista 64-bit, just in case that needs to be known (a mistake I made after I downloaded Kira Kira >>)

    Thanks!

  6. Avatar Image

    Nin

    Like a sniper, Satoko. XD

[Edit] Wait, aren't you the Eternal Sniper anyway? Wow. So that's also why were were able to read those tiny letters in the Art Thread. Nice!

  7. Once again to reiterate myself.

Well, I have an eye for details.
And perhaps I have another advantage that comes with an disadvantage...

  9. Okaaay copypasting over then.

@Peter I'd rather not get Clannad. I already watched the anime so there's no thrill anymore oAo

Yes there is. There's a shit ton of material they deleted, including numerous arcs like Sanae's and that one guy with key aids.

  11. Fate/Stay Night.

  12. Play Fate/Stay Night. It's the FF7 of VNs: it's the most popular, it was most people's first, lots of people love it and lots of people hate it (mostly for reasons related to the first three points). It's also really good. Tsukihime is another great VN that's also welcoming to newbies.

Both games fit your criteria for romance, multiple endings, heart-wrenching moments and full English patches. They have a few H-scenes, but they're funny rather than sexy (unless you like seafood).

Finally, why does your OS matter? I can't see any reason why any version of Windows XP, Vista or 7 would have trouble playing a Windows-based VN. Methinks someone gave you some incorrect information when you asked about a problem you had doing something...

(if you're really stuck, you can always set up a virtual machine and play the game in a different OS without even having to reboot your PC).

  13. Because Kira Kira works only on a 32-bit Vista TT_TT

Really? That's very unusual. I can see some programs needing a little configuration before they work on Vista 64-bit, but unless they are 16-bit -programs, it's weird for them to not work at all O_o

You saw the anime so you have no need to play the visual novel? o.o

Anyways, you have a list of the ones you played?

It's not an entirely unreasonable comment. If he watched the anime, I assume the story will have been spoilt and the excitement will have been taken out of reading the novel, or at least greatly reduced (I can't confirm this since I've neither read nor watched Clannad).

But that's like saying you can never enjoy a movie/novel/game again because you already watched/read/played it.

Ahem! I made sure to add that the excitement might just be reduced rather than taken away completely, just in case I got that kind of response :3

The excitement of a movie/novel/game *is* reduced if you already know what's going to happen, particularly when the story is the most important thing about it. That doesn't mean that there's no enjoyment left to be had, but when you know what's going to happen it's a very different experience from watching/reading/playing for the first time.

I knew Nagisa was going to die before watching the Clannad Movie. Then I watched the first season and enjoyed the hell out of it. Then I read the visual novel and enjoyed the hell out of it. Then I watched the second season and was sad that they skipped Sanae's drama.
