The Retro Thread

  1. I don't know if this counts, but I recently bought a 140 year old book from an antiquarian bookstore. It has that lovely musty smell that all old books have.

They should make an air freshener that has old book smell. Kind of like new car smell, but older and bookier.

    Pfft. Divine providence?

It's a conspiracy to make us read old books! Wake up, sheeple! The Illuminati use old books to control our brains!

  13. How to fix the battery in you old NES and GBA games.

NES carts are large enough you can fit a coin battery slot to making future replacement easier.

  14. I have the "Klinishche Arzneibehandlung" by F. Penzoldt from 1897 in my hands. Ir has a whole section dedicated to Quecksilber and Arsen.
In the Kohlenstoffverbindungen section we havesuch classics as Chloroform and Bromoform, in the Ester chapter of the same section we have Sulfonal and in the Aldehyde chapter we have Formaldehyde and Chlorahydrat among others.

In the Aromatische Verbindungen section Saccharin is already mentioned, among with classiscs such as Digitalis und derren Glykoside, Opium und seine Alkaloïde: Morphin und Codeïn, Apomorphine(und Apocodeïn), Strychnin, Pilocarpin, Cocaïn and Coffeïn und Theobromin(Kaffee, Thee, Cacao).
The only things that are missing for a party are psilocin(which hasn't been isolated at that time) and methamphetamine.

I have some old science books from the 1950s and 1960s but nothing from the 19th century.

My copy of Cyrano de Bergerac is from 1898. Not too practical, I suppose.
