Possible life on another planet?

  1. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/09/29/581g-goldilocks-planet-co_n_744635.html

All the news media has being reporting this, some scientistis claiming that there is a near 100% chance that there is life or potential for life to grow on it. I couldn't find the article that explained this further (forgot what the site was called) but this will have to do.

What are your thoughts, your hopes, your dreams and your desires concerning this.

  2. I, for one, welcome our new alien overlords.

  3. Wow I can't believe I actually ended up reading that whole thing.

I say there's a lot of possibility that an alien exist. The world is big, who says Earth is the only capable planet out of other millions of planets?

I say if aliens do exist, we either run our asses off or capture their asses.

  4. I laugh at the scientist who clams a hundred percent chance of life on that planet.

Why? Microscopic bacteria are lifeforms too, it's probably impossible for us to prove there are those there but one can assume. Liquid water, oxygen, proper atmosphere... I don't see why I would doubt a scientists opinion.

Maybe 100% is pushing it, but I don't think that really matters.

  6. That life is possible on that planet, sure. But to claim one hundred percent certainty that it exists without even having observed the planet is absurd.

  7. He's obviously exaggerating at this point, and possibly overexcited about this. The author had a slight of lack of seriousness in the article, and I don't exactly blame him.

  8. "...Vogt believes "that chances for life on this planet are 100 percent."

" And that just increases the likelihood of life developing on the planet, the discoverers said.

"It's pretty hard to stop life once you give it the right conditions," Vogt said."

He meant there's a 100% chance for that planet to develop life eventually.

  9. Now I feel like a dumb ass, which I am. Lol

so we pretty much have a second earth? if so man when we get there better not fuck it up.

on a unrelated note I call dibs on first ride over.

Watch it be a planet where hazardous beings were formed.

It's physically impossible for someone to make it there alive, unless people manage to live forever or having babies mid-travel, then maybe your grand-grand...grand-grandson can move there.

Or, of course, we manage to find a bug that makes us able to overcome gigantic distances that is not related with speed at all.

    ditto,...

besides the only way to prove that there isn't life there is to go there and bring back irrefutable solid hard proof.

This. The only way WE can see it is this option. Well that or maybe find a way to clone ourselves and then copy our own memories into our new bodies. But even then.

Anyways i saw this in the local paper a few days ago pretty interesting but gotta say not too surprised.

Would be funny though if it turned out that this was actually an alternate earth using the distance model. Hmm think this one would be a tier 2 maybe tier 3 always get em mixed up. But that's even less likely than our gaining the tech to reach em in our lves.

That would only get a copy of you in there, unless you think you can copy someone's soul as well. Otherwise if you cloned yourself and inserted your memories on your clone you would be alive in two different places, which isn't true.

Your clone would think he is you but you would in fact be dead. Some people dream of living forever by recycling their organs/bodies, I wonder how far that can go without the "soul" dying in the process.

I call it a soul for a lack of a better term, essence, or whatever.

Mmm i knoww hat you're saying but i'm talking about a bit more complex porocedure than just that. What i'm saying would also include having the technology to even replicate the exact same brainwave frequency and to be used on a persons death.

However such technology is currently impossible for multiple reasons not the least of which is the fact that replicating something down to the quantum particle level as i propose is nigh impossible and probably won't be possible for about another 200-500 years MINIMUM.

  20. Replicating those waves (should that be our "soul") still wouldn't deny the possibility of me having too bodies, or two mes existing at the same time. It's still paradoxical.
